Album Notes

HYTCHCOC – (n.) a young, conscious wordsmith; a concept rapper with jet speed who does it differently; (adj.) a word used to describe a method of rapping that is innovative, i.e. intertwined with plot, message and skills;

Underground hip-hop has its language, message and audience but there is a real void that exists, except for maybe Kanye West, in over-the-counter commercial rap that tells a didactic story in a vein that even mothers can both love and understand and not wince every time it comes out of their 12 year- old child’s mouth. We who love music in all of its forms are waiting for rap to grow up and go above ground with a real message and content. The closest thing I’ve heard that fits this definition is Hytchcoc.

If the name sounds familiar, it is. To old movie buffs the name is synonymous with suspenseful filmmaking at its best. Alfred Hitchcock, one of the greatest Hollywood directors had as his logo a pencil-drawing of his profile and his trademark was the show-opening mantra “Good Evening”. Likewise, on his website, www.hytchcoc.com, you will see the rapper’s profile and his version of the director’s mantra. Hytchcoc’s mission is to infuse suspense into and grab people with his music like Hitchcock does with his films. By the way, his favorite Hitchcock films are “The Man Who Knew Too Much” and of course, “Psycho.”

Hytchcoc may not be a household name yet but soon he will be. Just because Hytchcoc Presents…Da Classic X.O. Vol. 1 is his first CD release does not mean that he hasn’t been out there paying his dues. He scored a coup by inviting his friend J-Ro from the notorious Alkoholiks to rap on a cut on the new CD. He has also worked with Hittman from Dr. Dre’s camp; Raeqwon the Chief from the Wu Tang Clan; Phats Bossilinni from Yuckmouth’s camp and Kausion from Ice Cubes’ camp. He has also done theme songs for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Nike and Spreewell Racing Rims. Hytchcoc definitely has the respect of his peers and, definitely well-deserved.

Hytchcoc is versatile and likes to try different things. Hytchcoc can be seen live on local LA stages fronting a band called the Terraplane Project. The Terraplane Project is not your typical rap group. In fact, they are probably the only urban blues and rap group out there! The brainchild of producer L.Hyde who “discovered” the rapper when he was just a teen and for whom the rapper has the utmost respect as a producer, engineer, artist and friend, the Terraplane Project is a vehicle to showcase its talented members. To hear a rapper perform with a live four piece band, a gutsy veteran blues singer, and gospel-influenced background vocalists is definitely atypical and not your run-of-the-mill gin and juice style rap group. Hytchcoc shows off his vocal style as he raps about God, the power of love and the consequences of teenage sex. He is a caliber above most. Hytchcoc confides, “my music is like wine, it just gets better with time.”
