In a year when Loudon Wainwright and John Prine came to town, the best folk-rock I heard still came from an aluminum-coated plastic disc. Steinhart's diversity and dedication fulfills our recurring dream of VanDyke Parks going top 40.
New York Press
Steinhart has created a varied record defying categories and classifications. Folk, rock, even bouncy boogie-woogie are all present. There are saxaphones, clarinet, piano, organ; even a hurdi gurdi featured in the instrumental backing. Overall the sound is cohesive and intriguing.
Vocally Steinhart is ambitious and energetic. Visions of early Elvis Costello creep in-not a band influence at any rate. Well written songs complete a most appealing package.
