Ian Cocker was born was born in England, raised in South Africa and has been living in Australia for the past 10 years.
“Not Me” , his latest album was released in late 2006
Reflecting on the material, Cocker said: “The songs explore some serious topics that are manipulated towards directions they could have taken if circumstances, personal constitution or outlook had been different.”
The album was recorded across a 2 week period at the WIIG Factory in Lesmurdie, Perth.
Three West Australian based musicians (known as "The Times") joined Ian on the project: Neville Dowling (keyboards and backing vocals) and Guy Slingerland (drums, percussion and backing vocals) featured on Ian’s previous album “Footprints”. Stephen Manassah (bass) added a further creative dimension.
“It was interesting bringing these pieces of me into the studio as four chord progressions with lyrics. Songs that I had being playing solo and that Nev had worked on with me as well. As we rehearsed and recorded each member of “The Times” made their part their own and that synergy was special to say the least. I leaned back in a comfy chair and watched it all take flight. Laying the acoustic guitar and vocal tracks in the wake of this was a humbling experience.”
A young guitarist by the name of Trevor Jalla (www.trevorjalla.com) adds some great flavours on guitar. Jennifer Tingley also features on cello.
Stephen Manassah engineered and mixed “Not Me”. The album was mastered by Rick O’Neil at Turtlerock Mastering in Sydney.
”I think you need to have lived the good and bad of life to write about it. Relationships, this planet, whatever - you need to have felt it, touched it .....”
“Not Me” is more than an album. It is a journey.
