Album Notes

Ian uses the same FRETLESS BASS he bought and was able to afford, because of a tax refund back in 1980. THANK YOU revenue Canada. The bass is a GUILD B301F. He uses Bartolini pick-ups.

Also in his arsenal is a DeArmond guitar, but he would like to get his hands on an old Telecaster (hint hint hint).

Keyboard and horns graciously provided by his old KORGM1. At the heart of his studio lies a BOSS BR1180 digital multi-track recorder. A great little machine.

Ian published his debut album "MARTI WHO? a little over a year ago. More of a Jazz, Fusion, Rock mixture.

FRUIT ALLURES, the NEW dish on the menu, is Rock... Progressive, Different, Instrumental.

Oh, did we mention INSTRUMENTAL? Yes, these songs were written to be instrumental 'only' - no song lines included. Obviously, for the more talented amongst you, feel free to add lyrics and let me know what the result it. It is always neat to hear new ideas!

For now we bid you, Bon Appetit!

THE MENU:

PASTA SELL BY DATE:
A syncopated straight Rock ditty at the start with driving guitar, leading to a pop funk second sector featuring the inevitable bass solo.

LETTUCE PREY:
Guitars, organ and horns having a ball.

FRUIT ALLURES:
The title track; a foray into ballad-land led to his, my personal favourite track. This song originated from a little 8 bar chord progression of guitar I heard somewhere. Double bass tracks at 2:30 and chunky guitar rhythm ala Terry Kath, left me a great part to solo over.

QUANTUM LEEK:
I liked the trip to ballad-land in Fruit Allures so much I decided to revisit it again, this time I took the car. Yes, the flute and sax are single note samples, but I like to think that I was able to imitate the natural intervals of each instrument and hope I didn’t offend any sax or flute players in the process.

GIVE PIZZA CHANCE:
Old time Chicago-esque horn arrangements in my continuing homage to the great band of the 60’s + 70’s.

CELLO CON CARNE:
A fusion of light-classical and rock guitar. The only song with no bass guitar; my fingers were tired. It breaks the album up a little before driving a hard rock proceeding song called…

ENERGET EGG:
Written to be included in a promotional video for a mountain festival in Scotland. It came back with a note attached saying “something more modern and electronic”. Did anybody dance ?

SALAD DAYS:
Started off as a bass part, then added the guitar. Love the part at 2:30, and one of my son’s favourites. My, he has good taste.

(the) SHEEP SHAG TRUFFLE:
Another rock based tune, giving way to a moody jazz rock section at 2:30. Do I notice a pattern emerging?

FONDUE YOU:
Ballad-land again I’m afraid. Time to give your ears a rest. Created originally from the rhythm guitar and grown, cultivated and cherished until it blossomed into this result.

SUMMER BRIES:
The first song written for this second album, and also the longest one.
A song which started like all the others. I have no idea what the song will sound like when I start it. It just progresses, one instrument on top of the previous. etc. etc. etc.

Enjoy!

Not only is this entire piece of work a clever concept, but there much more than meets the eye here - Musically, this CD is palat pleasing from beginning to end. The music is full and rich, flowing wonderfully from track to track. I enjoy this CD while driving - but this is a composition for all occations! Looking forward to the Ian Pellow cookbook! If you like good smooth, intelligent music (and dessert), then this CD is a MUST HAVE!

After two years a new album from Ian. It’s now more rock orientated then Marti Who?. This is right in my alley. I hear all the mayor influences. Return to Forever, Jaco,Lenny White,Stanley Clarke and many more. Ian is a magical wizard on the fretless Bass. 1. Pasta Sell by Date The first song on the album. Very Catchy guitar playing. Nice cords and heavy strokes aswell on guitar and bass. A very strong opening song. 2. Lettuce Prey Also heavy on the guitar and very freaky. On the back horns from hell. But still the song holds your attention. 3. Fruit Allures The Titel track and also a strong song. Heavy but still a melodic feel to it. 4. Quantum Leek. Very mellow and laidback. Very beautifull and it touches you right in the core of your soul. 5. Give Pizza Chance Wild and chaotic poetry. Just like a day in Heavy Traffic. 6. Cello con Carne. A melodic intermezzo at the middle of the album. Very relaxing and wanting for more. Strings will take on a magic carpetride. 7. Energet Egg. Yessssssss GO GO GO GO. Very energgetic funky rhythms. Can’t get enough of it. A nice break and the rythmn will take hold of you. Great Stuff. 8. Salad Days. Very jazzy and also like early Mahavishnu Orchestra. I’m Impressed. Wonderfull to hear. Sheep Shag Truffle. This song holds your in your grip and on your toes. Very Rocky Jazz Tune. Fondue You. Guitar rules this song and that’s very great. It’s dom and sub together. The Yin and yang of this Great Album. 11. Summer Bries. This a perfect album closer. It’s rocky and jazzy together. The first song wanted you for more and this song makes you long for the next Album. My most favorite tracks are: Lettuce Prey, Quantum Leek, Cello con Carne, Energet Egg, Salad Days and Summer Bries. This is a one man’s Project. Composed,Performed and Produced by Ian Pellow. A fantastic job for a fantastic CD. Jazz-Fusion or as I still call it JAZZ-ROCK. Jazz-rock is rare to find but this is one heck of a GEM. Sad to say Jazz-Rock was never mainstream and it never will be. Fruit Allures stands easily in the same row as romantic warrior or schooldays. Every jazz-rock freak can by this album blindfolded. A yet great effort by Ian. A full 100 % Score.
