The Birch canoe, for example, is about a little canoe that he found as a boy, whose original use he only discovered many years later, as an adult: it had been used to give a deceased child to the lake. Yes, Tamblyn sometimes does sound like Bruce Cockburn, to whom he is often compared. But his work is somewhat more subdued and less militant, even though he is sometimes worried too.
