In the Fall of 2004, the Icebox Radio Theater, then only a few months old, embarked on an audio drama odyssey. For four consecutive Saturdays, the IBRT performed ‘Snowbank’ an original mystery, LIVE over the airwaves of station KXBR, International Falls, Minnesota.

It was radio from another era. Live sound effects combined with live actors, a cast that ranged in age from 10 to 70, and talent that ran the gamut from broadcast professional (Gene Gee, KBHW Operations Manager, formerly of K-Love Radio) to the first-time thespian.

That they pulled it off at all was a miracle. But in the chaos of producing this mini-epic, something wonderful happened to the Icebox Radio Theater.

A few months after the broadcast, Snowbank was recognized with a silver medal by the Mark Time Awards for excellence in science fiction audio. The judges were particularly impressed by the efforts of the younger members of the cast. Though not strictly speaking, a kid’s program, Snowbank is a chilling tale for young people of all ages.
