While performing in her own band in New York City, Idina became sidetracked by a call from her agent at the time who suggested she try out for a part in a small musical project at the New York Theatre Workshop. The director was looking for rock singers instead of theatrically-trained ones for a contemporary musical. That small musical project became one of the year's most impactful entertainment properties - the Broadway hit, Rent. Idina helped create the roll of Maureen for which she recieved a Tony nomination. The experience not only drew her into a new world, but led her to create a truly versatile, multi-media career...

In theatre: Ms. Menzel also earned a Drama Desk Award nomination for her performance as 'Kate' in Gabriel Barre's The Wild Party, produced by Manhattan Theatre Club. In her second collaboration with Barre, she originated the role of Dorothy in Summer of '42 at Goodspeed, and she starred last spring as 'Sheila' in City Center's Encore Series production of Hair, directed by Kathleen Marshall. Ms. Menzel returned to Broadway playing 'Amneris' in Elton John's musical, AIDA and also starred in The Vagina Monologues directed by Joe Mantello. Most recently she has again teamed up with Mr. Mantello on Broadway to star as 'Elphaba' in Wicked.

In music: An accomplished songwriter as well as singer, Idina released her debut album of original material, "Still I Can't Be Still" on Hollywood Records and performed at the 1998 Lillith Fair summer concert festival. Her most recent album, "Here" was produced and co-written by Jamey Jaz and the team at Touch of Jazz.
