Album Notes

Idiotboy's music is a heady mix of beauty, angst and despair which whilst making nods toward Jeff Buckley and Elbow amongst others always retains its own distinctive style. Their stunning debut album "Morning Kiss" shows off frontman Jon Smith Jr's impressive song writing skills alongside the band's imaginative and confident performances.

"Morning Kiss", the band's debut album is the result of their love affair with 90's indie and the seattle grunge scene which has been the core of Idiotboy's musical style through its early stages while recent flirtations with the sounds of early Cure and Joy division reveal the band's darker side. Produced by tvfordogs' Neil Luckett, "Morning Kiss" is a shimmering soundscape that reveals the vivid and emotional world of Jon Smith Jnr via the taut and textured world of his fellow musicians.

They are the sort of band you can't believe you've stumbled upon. Whilst this is their first recording, the maturity and sheer quality of the songs means you just know they are headed for success. Miss this album at your peril.

This is a heart-breakingly beautiful album. Poignant lyrics, heart-felt performances and a haunting quality make this record stand out from all the other post-bends-era-radiohead bands. This is very special indeed. Thank you nabouchaka guys for bringing it to my attention.

Okay, let's not play games here: this album is great. I've been a big, big fan of these guys for quite a while now, and I'm pleased to note that they've not only done a great job of translating the electric energy they create at their live shows, but have actually managed to raise their game. From the opening jangling guitar of opening track Left to Right, very reminiscent of Radiohead at their best, through the heartbreakingly beautiful strings of Hung Up (my favourite track), to the ambient Staring Down The Headlights (which kind of reminds me of Indifference by Pearl Jam) this album does everything you want it to.
