Album Notes

Los Angeles-based i found god was formed in 1993, playing its first show at The Whisky in August of that year. Blending a heavy, guitar-based sound with soulful, raw female vocals -- imagine Janis Joplin preaching at the altar of Soundgarden to the chorus of Smashing Pumpkins.

i found god has consistently sought to maintain a strong musical identity and has committed itself to the do-it-yourself work ethic of indie pioneers Sonic Youth and Fugazi.

You may have seen or heard i found god up on the big screen and on TV. The band has had 2 songs on "The Young and the Restless," 1 song in "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers," plus 4 songs and a cameo in the ABC movie of the week "The Devils Child," starring Kim Delany.

REVIEWS

Female feral ferocity vocal style wrapped in timely lyrics and passionate music.
author: Mike Ventarola

Excerpt from a forthcoming Starvox review inclusion ( www.starvox.net) I Found God is a West Coast phenomenon that is about to be unleashed yet again to the general public with an inclusion of the song "Christmas Dreaming" in the forthcoming movie "The Grinch" starring Jim Carey. The band has also had 2 songs on "The Young and the Restless," 1 song in "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers," plus 4 songs and a cameo in the ABC movie of the week "The Devils Child," starring Kim Delany. In addition to regular tours, and compilation appearances, this band has participated in numerous competitions where Christy has been top contender for best vocalist. All one needs to do is listen to the fire and fury coupled with the appropriate soulful angst which drives this band’s sound to fully agree. Christy is one of those vocalists who manages to wrap herself around a lyric with the most powerful raw energy and explosive vocal styles which periodically waxes as a cross between Pat Benatar, Janis Joplin and Tina Turner. No listener can come away without feeling the punch that she evokes from each note whether she is doing a rock ballad or an all out metal assault. Her singing style and vocal range dares you not to pay attention. The band name was a bit startling, but let me assure you this is not a religious rock band in any sense of the word. The cover photo of a Jesus statue, with a one hundred dollar bill across his mouth while he points to his heart that is in the shape of the world, is imagery enough to know where they stand on that score. Typically, this reviewer does not lean towards heavy metal as a musical preference, however, when a young lady such as Christy is behind the microphone teaching the boy bands how it should be done, one cannot help but sit up and take notice. Hearing their music online is NOTHING compared to actually having it on your stereo or headset. If you like your rock to be passionate and raw with some of the most expertly delivered vocals and timely lyrics to have been recorded in this genre in years, then you owe it to yourself to dive into the world of I Found God with the CD What Now?

Once it starts, there's no stopping it.

It starts off with a guitar riff that sounds like it's cranking the engine. And once it starts, there's no stopping it. "Drive" with it's pounding beat and fine guitar/bass combo is total energy. "Never Come Down" is a rocking ballad with an addictive electric guitar riff. "Come On" and "Disarray" really stand out as a couple of high energy tunes with great lyrics and good hooks. The word that best describes the whole CD is 'power'. And the power of the band is completely matched by Christy's vocals. She has an awesome voice that alternates between clear strength and rock and roll growl. After all this hard rocking, we need to cool down. The melodic ballad, "Summer's Gone" is a fine start. The final song "Just Another Day" is a dreamy and hypnotic tune that will stay with you a while. In fact, the whole CD will.
