Blues/Rock emanating from the epicenter of corn and soybeans

notes

Take three musicians from three different musical backgrounds (metal, rock, country/pop) and age groups (20s, 30s, and 40s), and bring them together to play blues based music, and what do you get? II Ton Heavy Thing.

What is II Ton Heavy Thing? Blues-based music that is too heavy to be traditional Blues. Rock music that is “bluesier” than today’s radio friendly Rock. II Ton Heavy Thing is: “Blues/Rock emanating from the epicenter of corn and soybeans somewhere in between Memphis and Chicago.”

II Ton Heavy Thing’s original music rides the Texas Blues/Rock/Southern Rock fence. While comparisons are easily founded, II Ton Heavy Thing is difficult to pigeonhole.

"Well Enough Alone" is a groovin rocker in the Texas Blues style. "Stoplight" captures the changes of small town life. "I Do What I Want" leans towards Blues Traveler. "Always Believed in You" is bluesy ballad. "Transparent" evokes texas style blues guitar. "Johnny" calls upon the smoky guitar and story telling in the Southern Rock vein.

Why II Ton Heavy Thing? Freedom. II Ton Heavy Thing crosses musical boundaries. It crosses generations. It brings people from different backgrounds together at a single, common denominator – blues-based music.

These fellows play a unique brand of contemporary blues that manages to capture the old eery spell of the originals (I think of Robert Johnson). Each of these guys is exceptional in his own right, but the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. There's no flash or teen angst, but just feet planted firmly in their own brand of delta mud. As a kid, Bonnie Raitt was able to put such spirit across...long time ago. For my dime, I am not aware of any better blues being played today than the tunes of II Ton Heavy Thing. Staggerlee
