This 8 track rock album was recorded in London right after Moriz's return from the 'Mirrors and Shade tour' in April 2005. It is Ike's second studio album on Mosquito Records and like on his previous UK releases all songs were written and produced by the artist himself.
Play Me is packed with a new drive and energy that seems to spring from Ike's exposure to many different countries, life on the road and, most importantly, moving back to Africa after years in London. Songs like the rhythmic and dramatic 'I feel Real' and the heavy yet laid back 'Light is Dark' and 'Evacuate Me' seem to reflect the artist's intense hunger for change.
The fiery opening song 'Hey, hey-hey, hey' pulls the listener right into the world of Ike Moriz. It is followed by the extremely hooky title track 'Play Me'. Bearing in mind that all songs are also released digitally (itunes etc.), Ike has chosen to treat most of the tracks as if they were Single releases: they are equally strong, impressive and emotive. However, the title track will be the first single to hit the shelves in South Africa in October/November this year. An exciting video of this track was shot in Cape Town this month involving top SA director Johan Nel of 'Fokofpolisiekar' fame and SA top model Lisa-Marie Schneider.
Expect no less than excellent, unique, brand new proudly South African music with a very international sound.

International SA Indie Pop star and actor IKE MORIZ (Cosmopolitan hot talent of the month 08/2006) has recently returned from the UK where he has received wide acclaim for his two albums ‘Mirrors & Shade’ and ‘Play Me’ (out now). His original songs were played in 17 countries worldwide and Ike has appeared in many major feature films like ‘Alfie’, ‘Shanghai Knights’ and ‘Love Actually’ as well as UK TV series ‘Eastenders’, ‘Family Affairs’ and ‘Holby City’ et al. Rock legend David Bowie himself voted Ike’s songs as top song of the month on his web site! ‘South Africa’s own indie pop idol’ (The Citizen) studied music and acting in South Africa, Germany and Holland after a jet-setting childhood. The singer, actor, producer and songwriter spent 5 years in London, fronting rock bands, performing in musicals and running his own label Mosquito Records London, before returning to his favourite country SA at the end of 2005. PLAY ME is currently taking the SA radio charts by storm (5FM, MFM, MWEB, etc.) while his music videos rock DSTV channel MK89 with FHM super model Lisa-Marie Schneider in the lead. In the US, Ike was described as “Bowie without the glam meets Oasis without the self-importance teamed with UK chart alternative without the boredom”.
Ike Moriz has returned to the road, bringing "PLAY ME TOUR" to an audience in South Africa. By using the words "PLAY ME" for both his new album, single and tour, Ike is taking a cynical look at the egotistical, money & fame driven pop culture of this century. You can keep up to date at www.ikemoriz.com!
...And they shall play him again and again and again ...!

Ike Moriz - Play Me (Mosquito Records London)
Recorded in London in April 2005, Ike Moriz' second album release on his own Mosquito Records London imprint continued the work he'd done on "Mirrors and Shade". Though many of his recent recordings have found Moriz immersed in the songs and easy style of the 1950s and `60s, his early recordings were very much rooted in the English alternative pop style, pioneered by David Bowie, and enthusiastically sustained by later groups like Suede. As with all Moriz' releases from this period, the songs were written and produced by the artist.
He's a skilled pop songwriter, and has indicated in subsequent interviews that because of the rise in popularity of the download, his approach to writing albums was to treat every track as a standalone single. It's a system that obviously works, as the listener is enveloped in a collection of infectious melodies, sing-a-long choruses and enough hooks to fill a fisherman's tackle box. It's no surprise that radio picked up on these songs and they were much played throughout Europe and Moriz' South African homeland. Some six years after their original release, they retain much of their freshness. Many fans of grown-up pop will find a great deal to enjoy, whether it's the all-out sunshine buzz of the title track or the wistful lament of "The Sad Songs".
