Album Notes

East Coast native Ilene Adar is a songwriter who appreciates the crooked path often traveled by the human heart. Everything she always wanted to know but was afraid to ask she found in the vibration of a guitar string and a great song. Out of a thicket of words and experiences, she searches for the essence of our truths. Her guiding principles are that love is the only thing that matters; life just makes more sense when it's set to music; art saves lives; and there's nothing better for the inside of a person than the outside of a horse. Growing up in Rockville, Maryland in close proximity to the Mason-Dixon line, she developed an affinity for the soulful core of American traditional music, from folk to country, bluegrass to blues. Though her musical influences are diverse, she has created a distinctive blend all her own.

"These songs are lovely in the best sense of the word, delicately arranged, flawlessly executed."
"Eclectic, elusive, mysterious ... none of these words convey completely the silvery, shadowy, superlative music of Ilene Adar...her voice exceptional enough to stop you in your tracks."

--Kevan Breitinger

"Adar is adept at evoking emotion in her music...With a deft touch at arrangement, and a voice I like more with each listening, Adar dives into love, longing, loss and celebration on Quiet The Storm."

--Matt Kramer, Pacific Sun

Although her new album, Quiet the Storm. has a rootsy feel, this 11- song collection takes an unexpected turn or two in the pop direction.

Her debut album, First Sound, was released in September 2002 and gives voice to the passions, grief, and joys of the human condition. With recurring themes of love, loss, and redemption, backed by spare yet moving instrumentals and harmonies, Ilene's 11 original songs and crystalline voice evoke mystery and deep sense of spirit.
