Take R&B, Hip Hop, throw in elements of Jazz, a touch of Rock & Roll, Chill Out/ Alternative and a hefty dose of Spoken Word, and you have the beginnings of a truly original sound. Throw in some of the brightest and most recognizable names in the DC Metro Areas underground music/ poetry scene, and you have the beginnings of greatness. From Baltimore to DC, DC to VA and back to the outskirts of DC, the illpoets.com collective has been moving crowds as individuals for years. From the soulful sounds of renaissance man W. Ellington Felton to the unmistakable energy of the Poem-Cees Black Picasso, these artists have been proving to the world that the DC art scene is a viable and diverse market.
Between the solo LP's, National Poetry Slams, theatrical performances, sold out concerts, touring, appearances on HBO's Def Poetry Jam or BET's 106 & Park, shooting independent films, and guest-starring on CD's of artists like Fertile Ground and Prince Paul, the illpoets.com collective finally got together to give fans of the individual artists...a collective masterpiece debut. I love the cd from beginning to end.  The music and the lyrics for every track go very well together.  The bonus tracks are truly dope.  Also, it is one of the most well put together independent cds that I have seen in the DC Metro area.  It covers all emotions and definitely all seasons...  And I can't wait to here more from this collective.

Four outta five stars!

I’ve been an active part of the arts community in the metro DC area for more than 10 years now, & I’ve seen us periodically go through a cycle of phases, most often the “crabs in a barrel” theory and fed-up artists pointing out the problem but doing nothing to remedy it.   Personally, I enjoy working within a group of hard-working artists whether “established” or not; I love seeing the resulting fruits of our labor.  Informally, there have been some high points on the collabo tip performance-wise, but I haven’t seen many of the larger collectives release any solid recorded product – if any at all… 
Until now!   
This illpoets.com “all seasons” CD is a very very good project.  The music & the vibe are very consistent (a lot of that is due to Kyle handling the bulk of the production duties, I’m sure)  cool & at times mellow, but never boring – the one long-ass song (Campaign ’04) has enough variety to keep you listening.  Can’t go wrong with Dub & K’alyn - Manchurian Candidate is DOPE – very well written & Shonda & Dehejia sound sexy together. “Wait till morning” is still powerful, “Teachin’” is great & “Happy Anniversary” is still cold as ever.  All the vocals are very well mixed. 
Just when you think you can file this joint under “neo-soul/poetry” the rhymes kick in at the end! Don’t know who “Black Boo” is, but his shit is alright!  Nice songs.  Can’t really agree with all the “get yours” politics in “Do your Thang”, but I know good rhyming when I hear it.  Four outta five stars!

I bought this CD from my co-worker whom I consider to be a good friend.  I'm glad I made this purchase because the CD is absolutely wonderful.  The talent on this CD is amazing.  I admire each artist represented and encourage them to continue in their success.

From beginning to end, this cd has been a pure joy to listen to.  The chemistry between the artists on Track 3 - Campaign '04 is wonderful! The interludes/skits about the dashiki thong and kufi condom are hilarious!! Big ups to the illpoets.com collective on a wonderful collaborative effort!!!  GET THIS CD!!
