ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Detroit, Michigan's own ILLUSION returns with "Sleight of Hand," a powerful new CD from the seasoned progressive rock quartet. Originally known for their unique brand of original classic rock, the band has developed a darker, heavier style on their second full-length release. "Sleight of Hand" features 13 original tracks that range from dense, guitar-heavy rockers ("The Lake," "Silent Valor"), to moody acoustic-driven pop ("Kayleen"). Hammond organ, mandolin, and percussion are among the diverse instrumentation used to create a collection of songs reminiscent of the glory days of FM radio. ILLUSION drifts effortlessly between light and dark. Dynamic arrangements and lyrics effectively draw the listener into the story like a well-crafted movie...

...refreshing in today’s directionless nu-metal scene.
Illusion is a four piece, hard rock group hailing from Detroit. Their sound on their latest release, Sleight Of Hand is a straight ahead rock that’s firmly rooted in the late 70's/ early 80's hard rock camp. They go for the type of hard rock that was pure and gimmick less as well as ones that needed to be a fashion show on stage. While the music isn’t entirely original, it is refreshing in today’s directionless nu-metal scene.
The music is very infectious and you might find yourself thrusting your fist in the air, or some air-guitar moves. Guessing from how the music sounds on the CD, one can only imagine how they are live. In fact, I’m sure they’re a very big crowd pleaser wherever they take the stage. Sleight Of Hand is recommended to fans of afore mentioned Hard Rock scene.

Mike Blackburn - Sea of Tranquility

...all killer no filler
Wow this is one rocking fantastic release! These boys out of Michigan rock hard and long, the thirteen tracks on this release cover more than seventy minutes of music and it is all killer no filler. The vocals are a little suspect at times but other than that this was a thoroughly enjoyable romp through a Rush or Dream Theatresque soundscape. All of the boys sing and play several instruments so it is impossible to know who did what but John Patrick, Jon Roybal, Ron Smith and Doug Tucker churn up a storm on this excellent release, highly recommended.

Gabor Kleinbloesem - Strutterzine

...really captures the spirit of early 70s-mid 70s rock/hardrock.
Here’s a band out of the Detroit area. ILLUSION is the name of the band and on their 2nd CD ‘Sleight of hand’ we can hear a strongly 70s influenced Classic Hard/Heavy Rocksound. The big heavy guitar riffs remind one of BLACK SABBATH, BLUE OYSTER CULT, LED ZEPPELIN and RAINBOW. Most of the 13 included songs have a tight uptempo rocksound, with some very strong melodic choruses and vocals. This is definitely a quality release, which really captures the spirit of early 70s-mid 70s rock/hardrock. Highlights can be found in the shape of “Honor among thieves”, “Silent Valor”, “Insomnia” and “The Hidden.”

Amazing, awesome cd- a modern classic!
I've never written a review of a cd before, but this time I really have to since it blew me away...
This is one of the best cd's I've heard in quite a long time.
Excellent songwriting, I'm simply amazed by the arrangements, varied dynamics, nice twists of the songs, lyrics and overall sound. This album deserves a greater audience, because IMHO Sleight Of Hand is a modern classic.
To me, the closest resemblance is to artists like british DEMON, B.T.O, B.Ö.C and ALDO NOVA, but Illusion have their own sound and most important - are truly awesome composers. It's kind of boring to always compare a bands sound to others but hey - that's something we humans do, right? Compare... Still, I think Illusion have a unique sound of their own. All songs on Sleight of hand are truly great, and that is rare these days. Yes, read my lips EVERY song on this album is AWESOME! No fillers...
I'm really curious of their next album, because if they sound this mature, dynamic and excellent now, the next album has to be out-of-this-world-awesome!
Sleight of Hand is a modern classic I can listen to over and over again. I bought their first album at the same time, but didn't care too much for that, it can't be compared to THIS masterpiece...
Howcome this band isn't touring the world, selling millions of albums? This is high quality music.
Keep rockin'!! \m/
