A really great CD full of variety for everyone.

I really loved this CD: full of nostalgia about the human condition, parents, children, lovers, (present and lost)and hard to "stay sittin'" dance tunes. I listen to it often, as I want to hear the great lyrics and wonderful singing again and again.

A Near Life Experience That You Should Share With The Freds
author: Edward Goss
With the release of their debut CD, The Imaginary Freds have moved from the garage into the limelight. Consisting of Jack Collins and his friends Robin Lake, Bob Pierre, Penny Balocki, and Jim Romanow, The Imaginary Freds full length CD consists of 13 original songs penned by four of the band members. Playing an eclectic mix of country, folk, blues, rock, and punk, The Imaginary Freds sound at various times like Joan Baez, The B-52s, Al Anderson, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Lucinda Williams, and George Thororgood - mighty heady company indeed. Favorites after repeated listening include the Collins-penned "Too Many Questions," the bouncy "Remember That," the punky "Alter My Genes," and "Mama's Got Wings" - a Penny Balocki effort that Lucinda Williams would be proud of. There is a little something in here for everyone, and it will be tough for the mainstream to pigeonhole The Imaginary Freds - which is a Very Good Thing. On the technical side, the HDCD encoded CD was recorded in Jim Romanow's Balancing Hat Studios in Storrs, CT., mastered by Jeff Lipton in Boston, and released on Flaming Lawnmower Records. It's available at CDBaby.com, and on The Freds Website at www.imaginaryfreds.com. I highly recommend this CD for anyone who is absolutely put off by the drivel that passes for mainstream radio these days. It gets my rating of 4 out of 5 guitar picks.

It is a pleasure all-round. Fresh, perhaps best described as ranging across a variety of contemporary folk-blues styles. These pieces work as background music, if you must - but are a real delight to listen to for their lyrics as well as the fine execution.
I already have several favorites - the hauntingly beautiful "love song" the witty "alter my genes" the hard-rocking dance tune "remember that" are just a few.
Great company on the commute, the walk around the neighborhood....This is one enjoyable CD!
