Album Notes

The Imaginary Trio Plays the Cure is the second album release from The Imaginary Trio. In it the "trio" interprets seven new arrangements of songs originally written and performed by the English gloom rock band the Cure.
The tunes range from conga heavy Jobim inspired bossa arrangements, to straight ahead brush beats, and all the way to the space station cocktail lounge rendition of "the Love Cats" that includes a marvelous synthesizer lead and a great alto sax solo by local Los Angeles latin jazz scene fixture Cuco.
John Isaac Phinney's guitar playing doesn't disappoint with his mellow flowing style he floats in and out of the melody lines following whimsical and random tangents as they come into his mind.
This is a very enjoyable album for fans of straight ahead guitar based jazz, it's also perfect for fans of cocktail lounge background music, and a real treat for fans of the Cure that want to hear the band's music done in an unexpected and clever new way.
