Album Notes

01 PreVision - 0:32
This is a short rock overture to set the musical direction of the album, similar to a preface in a book.

02 Soundscape - 6:12
I attempted to “paint” a sonic landscape with this song. The perspective is of hearing what a panoramic landscape might “sound” like if it was aural instead of visual; thus, the different sonic textures (i.e. rock, new age, etc.) in the song.

03 Hindsight - 3:17
This song is a fusion romp that drives fast forward while looking in the rear-view mirror.

04 Jubal - 4:25
I wrote this minor acoustic guitar piece to commemorate Jubal who, as best I can tell from scriptures, was the first guy God gave the gift of music to (Gen. 4:21). However, Jubal was of the lineage of Cain who had been cursed by God, so to bring in this aspect of his lineage, I wrote rhythmically chaotic and musically dissonant piece to act as a darker background to the relatively “nice” acoustic guitar solo.

05 Crystal Sea - 4:50
In Rev. 4:6, John mentions a sea of glass like crystal in front of God’s throne. The idea of this crystal sea in heaven always intrigued me. So, similar to Soundscape, I wrote an atmospheric jazz tune about how I envisioned what the sound of this sea might be like in musical terms.

06 Harmony’s Brooke - 3:09
This is a solo acoustic guitar piece written as a lullaby for Harmony Brooke, our first child. I think this is actually her least favorite song on the album. She’s more of an upbeat rock-n-roller.

07 Jubilant’s Hope - 3:16
This song was written for our second child, Jubilant Hope. The easygoing jazz style was meant to mirror her happy, easygoing personality.

08 Vibe - 4:00
Initially, I was trying to capture a Jazzy/Latin feel with this song. I don’t know if I really caught the Latin aspect of it, but the song does have an upbeat jazz vibe.

09 Quest - 5:05
As I was writing / recording this progressive rock tune, it seemed to have a rambling quality to it, kind of like a bunch of rag-tag adventurers traveling across some mythical land on a quest.

10 Theophilus - 4:07
The title Theophilus is used in both Luke 1:3 & Acts 1:1, and is generally accepted to mean friend of God or beloved of God. What higher calling could a mere mortal ever attain than to be beloved by, and a friend of, the Creator of the universe and everything in it? Sounded like good song fodder for a simple jazz piece to me.

11 PS - 1:37
This song is the musical postscript to the album; a simple atmospheric mood piece to spool down with.

12 Cuttin’ Heads With The Oracle - 2:59 (bonus track 1)
This is the comic relief song on the album. It’s a remake of a rock song titled “Oracle” which I wrote for a band I was in a long time ago (it was a “serious” song then). In the remake version, I decided to take two totally different musical styles (in this case Reggae/ Island music and Heavy Metal) and set up a dueling guitars scenario. On one side of the stage you have this wild looking Heavy Metal guitarist frenetically wailing away on his guitar trying to prove he’s got the fastest and most radical guitar licks. On the other side of the stage is this super laid back Rastafarian looking guy who couldn’t care less about how fast he is; he’s just into his cool island groove. I had no idea how I was going to make this song come together, and I was prepared for a musical train wreck. In fact, I was so sure it wouldn’t work I didn’t even try to write segues between the parts; I just stopped one, cold turkey, and then started the other. As I began recording it though, I was pleasantly surprised at how well the two parts actually did gel in an odd sort of way. This song unexpectedly turned out to be one of my favorites.

13 Shut Up And Get Out - 3:08 (bonus track 2)
In Luke 4:35 Jesus rebukes a demon and is quoted as saying, “Be quiet and come out of him.” (NKJV) In today’s vernacular, Jesus may have said something more like the title of this blues / rock song.

Total Running Time = 46:37
