Album Notes

Who the heck is The Incredible Din?

The Incredible Din is a rock band out of Livermore, California, made up of lead singer/guitarist Marc Laspina, bassist Jason Pettibone and drummer Marc Hughes. They pool their vast collective musical influences from all across the musical map, ranging from Jimi Hendrix, Rush, U2, Oingo Boingo, The Police, Jethro Tull and Frank Zappa to name just a few. The Incredible Din's sound has a classic foundation to it, giving it a fresh, bright newness while invoking a timeless quality. This becomes obvious when one learns the meaning behind the songs. That is where the resonation with the listener turns into a serious love for this band.

Long-time friends, Laspina and Pettibone have been playing together since age 14, having met a couple of years earlier in school. In 1996, with the addition of Hughes, the three became Men Not Gods, a progressive alternative power trio. After 4-years and an EP recording they disbanded only to be reborn in 2002 as The Incredible Din.

With life experiences and wisdom now under their belts, the trio recorded a self/produced full length album. The record takes you on a journey of self-discovery filled with angst and hope, anger and love, forgiveness and acceptance. The album is a true representation of what fans hear on-stage when Laspina's raw, emotional energy reaches out to the audience. On the Spanish influenced "If You're Alone", his singing fills you with yearning to be loved. On the quirky "Scrambled Eggs" a mixture of faith and the desire to be true to yourself plays through both vocals and guitar. On the edgy "More than Money" you feel the harsh judgment handed to those who've given in to materialism. Hughes' drumming is characterized by an intense energy, like a caged tiger pacing behind the bars of its cell, waiting for an opportunity to break out. Pettibone is the quiet foil to his passionate band mates. His baselines are creative, intricate and groove oriented, creating a bridge between Laspina's tower of passion and Hughes' controlled fury.

The Incredible Din has that indescribable something that makes their performances stand out from other rock bands. Perhaps it's the comfort and command of one's instrument that can only come with over 15 years of playing. Perhaps it's the close friendship between the three that reaches out beyond the professional band relationship. Perhaps it is the passion and dedication with which they perform the music they love. Whatever it is, you feel it when you see The Incredible Din perform on-stage.

The band is currently continuing to play clubs in the San Francisco bay area with plans of getting radio airplay. Eventually The Incredible Din would like to be signed to a record label and record one after another full-length album. While of course sipping margaritas under the palm trees...

This group has earned your purchase and you deserve to hear what they have to offer. The album starts off rocking and maintains a forceful, exciting sound throughout. Even with the consistent rocking, though, the music is anything but redundant. The guitars jump from some industrial sounds, to good old punk rocky simplicity, to Latin flavor with nary a hitch. The lyrics augment the eclectic guitar as they dance between the deeply spiritual, the shamelessly emotional, and the downright humorous. The guitars and beat serve the lead singer and lyrics well though sometimes they come off a bit heavy handed. I got over this after the first 2 or 3 listens and ended up appreciating the album more because of its purity of sound. And on that note, I hesitate to make the "garage band" comparison, because the production and talent that went into this album far surpass such a label, but The Incredible Din has managed to maintain that purity, honesty, and raw, great sound that is so easily lost in mainstream music. Truly, try this out, pass it on, do yourself and the world a favor.

Wow. I stumbled upon this group on iTunes by total accident. I was searching for a song that I didn't know, I thought it had the word "bends" in the title so I typed that in, and went down the list, listening to the sample of each song. Well when I got to "The Bends" by The Incredible Din, I thought hey that sounds cool, so I bought it right up. Well I listened to the samples of the other songs, and they sounded interesting, so I bought them all! Well the more I listened to them, the more I fell in love. The musical talent is phenominal, the vocals and lyrics are like nothing I've ever heard, the whole package is simply the best musical experience I've had since Led Zeppelin. I've been listening to their 10 songs over and over for 2 months now and I'm still not tired of it. The music has that clean mainstream quality but it's like nothing I've ever heard. Guitar solos are back! Their talent is truly awesome, as in the real definition of the word. Their verse and chorus riffs are also totally unique, not like 90% of current mainstream music where they just rearrange the same X number of chords, and guitar solos (if they even have them) are just boring and simplistic. They have no style really, rather a blend of so many styles, they just create their own. You can however hear influences of pop, a little punk and ska, even some metal. One thing I would love to hear from them that is less heard on this album would be a ballad/softer type song. They totally rock though, and I love their energy! About the vocals then. This guy must be the most interesting guy on the planet. I'll write my opinion, I hope I don't offend anyone (not like the band would read this anyhow but you never know). It's simply amazing, the singing sounds mostly lighthearted, sometimes to the point of being almost comical, again I don't know if he means to be that way but that's how I interpret it. I smile when I listen to a lot of the songs, it's that cool =) So unique. I'm not much of an artist myself, so I don't look too deeply or try to understand it but it seems to be mostly feel-good stuff. I'm a blockhead when it comes to that kind of stuff. Anyways I'm trying to start break away from mainstream stuff and this band was a great place to start. They have links to other cool bands on their web site, I'll have to check them out too. But don't think for a second that this band isn't worth $10 on iTunes, heck I want to fly to San Fran just to see them, and maybe chat with the actual band members. I live in Michigan....that's how much I love this band! GET IT!
