notes
In Davey's Grip was started in late 2004 when accomplished rock drummer, Kim Urhahn, decided to pick up a guitar and explore her desire to pen a few tunes. Having enlisted the help of some musician friends, a demo/EP was recorded at The Hive Studios in Burnaby BC in 2005. Eager to take her project to the next level, Kim began a steady rehersal schedule and began pursuing local promoters to showcase the band to a live audience. Unfortunately, due to scheduling and commitment problems, the band soon lost their original members one by one, bringing the project to a standstill. Kim turned to friends for help once again, and before long, bassist Gregory M. asked to join realizing the music and vibe was exactly what he was looking for. Soon after, R answered Kim's ad and joined the band on drums. The rhythm section developed an instant chemistry and have come to be known simply as the "machine gun" due to their all out assault behind the vocals and guitar. Unfortunately, the search for a permanent guitarist dragged on for months threatening the future of the project once again. Finally, local rockgod, Andrew West, caught the band's show one night and upon hearing that they needed a guitar player asked if he could come out and jam. He came out. He rocked hard. He was in the band. Andrew brought a much-needed dynamic to the band, as his blues-influenced lead-guitar lines added new life to the band's sound. With a rock-solid line-up the band is finally enjoying steady sales of their EP, consistant offers for live shows, and is gaining a loyal following.
This is a no-nonsense band with a hard and honest approach to music. Their sound has been described as "Helmet meets Veruca Salt", but anyone who's seen them live will simply call it "awesome". Kim's ability to sound both beautifully vulnerable and ridden with angst all in the song, paired with her one-of-a-kind vocal melodies, is a perfect match for the hard-rock assault of the band. This band is a refreshing change from the norm.
