Indigent originated in Summer 2002 as a death/grind project, but the music quickly evolved into its current form, mixing a death metal base with elements of doom and black metal, rhythmic experimentation and a strong sense of melody to create a unique atmosphere. It has remained a solo project, though many of the lyrics are contributed by Bleakmage.
Indigent released a 5 track demo CD at the end of February 2004, which received numerous extremely positive reviews. "Simulacrum" was recorded between January 2005 and January 2006 and showcases a more mature sound with increased influence from doom and black metal, while retaining the original Indigent atmosphere.
Review excerpts:
"Indigent are already exceedingly good but the project possesses near limitless potential and that makes it a very exciting prospect indeed." - Live4Metal
"...Simulacrum kicks the shit out of everyone in their genre today" - Metal Coven, 9.5/10
"...all fans of bands like OPETH, DARK TRANQUILLITY, KATATONIA, EMPEROR... pick this one up and keep your ears open in the future... a part of me tells me this isn't the last the Metal world is going to hear from INDIGENT... far from it!!" - The Metal Observer, 9/10
"...Simulacrum is a real achievement, and Indigent are an exciting prospect." - Zero Tolerance Magazine
"..."Simulacrum" is a step closer to heaven – Though its originality is hard to make a seven lines written review. Indigent just don’t fit any scene." - Vampire Magazine
