Album Notes

On June 21, 2008, the Infinite Orchestra played for an enthusiastic throng at an outdoor festival across from Lincoln Center in New York City. Although the festival featured highly skilled acts sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center, City Opera, the New York Philharmonic, and the American Composers Orchestra, it was not until the Infinite Orchestra stormed the stage that the street filled with cheering people.

The Infinite Orchestra's music carries the listener through a unique and ecstatic journey. The group’s guitars, keyboards, and violins blend the immediacy of rock with the epic sweep of classical music and generous helpings of jazz, dance, and electronica. Part pop group, part symphony, their music knows no limits.

The I.O. was founded by composer-keyboardist-guitarist Ben Morss, who has played with and arranged for bands such as Cake, Wheatus (“Teenage Dirtbag”), and Josh Joplin. He played with California acid-jazz kings 11:11 at festivals like SXSW and NXNW, and his poppy punk band, The Pilgrims, made the charts of college radio stations nationwide. His musicals have been published by Samuel French, and Ben holds a doctorate in composition.

In addition, the Orchestra features Rus Wimbish (Scurvy) on bass, Shawn Setaro (Martin Bisi, Dresden Dolls) on guitar, Dan Davine (Avenue Q) on drums, Joanne Lin on cello, Ben Kreith on violin, and Tate Evans and Lucas Steele (Threepenny Opera) on vocals. Recent NYC club dates have included Makor, Galapagos, the Cutting Room, Pianos, and the Knitting Factory.

Excerpts from the group’s first CD and previews of their new recordings can be heard at www.infiniteorchestra.com and www.myspace.com/infiniteorchestra.

Live the journey. Rise.
