REVIEWS OF "AROUND MALIN HEAD..."
Sing Out Magazine / Spring, 2005
In south central Pennsylvania a trio known as Inishowen keeps alive the glories of Irish, Scottish and maritime music. The band consists of Ron Peters (pennywhistles, recorder, and concertina), Lynn Cohen (piano and harp), and her husband Henry (fiddle, viola, guitar, mandolin). Catching them live is one-part session and one-part musical education....Their debut CD is energetic - especially Henry Cohen's fiddling - and varied, with some French-Canadian and English country dance tunes tossed into the Celtic and sea song mix....it's a warm and winning effort from a trio of dedicated folks.

Dirty Linen Magazine / February-March, 2005
...There's a different sort of beat in the music of the Pennsylvania trio Inishowen, whose instrumental disc Around Malin Head [self-released (2004)] features a dozen sets of old fiddle tunes played country dance style, often with a pumping piano to reinforce the foot-tapping rythms. They draw their material both from the British Isles and North America, opening with a pair of country dance melodies from the north of England, following with a set of old-time American tunes, crossing over to Ireland for the gentle waltz "Give Me Your Hand," and then back across the Atlantic for a rousing set of Quebec reels. They also manage to musically link Alaska and Texas in a set that joins "Ookpik Waltz" (the native Aleutian name for the snowy owl) and the classic "Midnight on the Water." The instrumentation is simple but the playing is smooth.

"AROUND MALIN HEAD"
Malin Head is the northmost point of land in Ireland, at the tip of the Inishowen peninsula. "Around Malin Head" is a collection of tunes that are either from, or influenced by, one of the Celtic nations. We sail out from Malin Head, following the "wake" of Celtic musical influence. With this collection of tunes, we are, musically speaking, "looking out" from Malin Head - eastward to Scotland, and westward toward the Americas...

BIOGRAPHY
HENRY COHEN was born in New York City. He began his musical studies on the trumpet at the age of 8. Long before that, though he had been bitten by the "folk bug," while growing up in the folk-boom years of the late 50's and early 60's. Henry began teaching himself guitar at age 14, and has been a string player ever since. Attending Nassau Community College on Long Island in the early 70's exposed him to folk festivals and concerts, which gave him the inspiration to become a multi-instrumentalist. Henry currently plays fiddle, viola, mandolin, guitar, tenor banjo, hammered dulcimer, bowed psaltery and lute.
Henry Cohen and Lynn Colgan discovered each other at a festival where they were both performing in the Fall of 2000. They subsequently married, and eventually resigned from their former bands to form a musical duo, performing under the name "Inishowen." Eventually Ron Peters, a good friend and former music colleague of Henry's.
LYNN COLGAN COHEN was born in Hanover, Pennsylvania to a family with a long and varied musical tradition. Anything from Classical music to Barbershop Quartet could be heard at the Colgan house on any given day. Lynn began her formal musical education with piano studies at age 5, which continued through her high-school years, when she studied under the direction of the late Herb Springer. During her teen years Lynn taught herself to play the guitar, and eventually picked up the tin whistle and bowed psaltery. Her great favorite, though, is the Celtic harp.
RON PETERS, originally from the Philadelphia area, has over 40 years of musical experience. bringing to Inishowen great talent as a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. Ron plays guitar, mandolin, English and Anglo concertinas, penny and low whistles, recorders (Baroque, not tape), mountain dulcimer, and harmonica. He also sings tenor and baritone harmonies and leads. Ron toured with rock bands in the 60s and with various ethnic, folk and wedding bands throughout the 70s to the 90s.
