ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Eugene, Oregon-based power trio Inner Limits is an amazing artistic collaboration. The individual musicians, who are recognized for their talent both regionally and nationally, have come together to treat both sophisticated audiences and casual listeners to something exciting and fresh. Their sound, coined as “Groovy Funk Fusion,” ignites the torch for a new generation of music enthusiasts.

“Inner Limits-with palpitating guitar riffs, soulful vocals, technical powerhouse bass and exceptionally tight drumming-blends a refined musicianship with artistic depth that simply resonates to the bone.”
- DJ Kim Buchanan, KWVA Radio, Eugene, Oregon.

Olem Alves (Guitar and vocals) is a cornerstone of the Eugene music scene. Rooted in mentorship from famed guitarist James Thornbury of Canned Heat and steeped in the Eugene Blues Jams as a youngster, Olem’s communicative licks and distinctive tone simply dazzle. As a leader, he has shared the bill with favorites such as Coco Montoya, Duke Robillard, Canned Heat, Paul Delay, Linda Hornbuckle and Maceo Parker at clubs and festivals around the Northwest. Olem serves up a delicious mix of powerhouse vocals and high energy solos that are sure to wow audiences wherever he goes.

Rob Kohler (Bass) brings an astounding level of insight, experience, raw talent, and confidence to the stage. Whether he’s mixing it up with the jazz world’s finest at the Stanford Jazz Workshop, jamming on stage with the incredible Alice DiMicele at the Strawberry Music Festival, or playing with the worlds best improvisers at the Vancouver International Music Festival, Rob throws down an unyielding groove that grabs a hold and takes you for a ride.

Kevin Congleton (Drums) makes it look so easy. Sensitivity exudes from behind his kit one moment, and intense rhythmic complexity demands your attention the next. New to the gig scene, Kevin is fresh from the One O’clock Lab Band at the University of North Texas where he backed up jazz greats such as Nicholas Payton, Phil Woods, and Benny Golson. Congleton brings it all to the bandstand every night.

In the summer of 2005 Inner Limits began the unveiling of their exciting new improvisational groove for the ears and hearts of the Eugene Community. Music theorists love their technique. Rockers dig their commanding intensity. The crowd just loves the show. The future of funk will never be the same.
