Album Notes

Enjoy! This record is inspiring in that 'accept everything' sort of way. The whole cd was recorded with the concept of 'first take goes,' which Jennifer Turner of 'inner' feels is terribly lacking these days... everything, including our music, is processed to death. Smashed and stretched and smushed and whitened and glossied. The tracks here are alive and kicking, never second guessed, written and recorded and mixed all in the same day...

This wasn't what Jennifer's label at the time, Virgin, had in mind. They repeatedly wanted to know who was going to remix the thing. This led Jennifer to feel she finally had enough of the music industry as she knew it... basically, major labels weren't working for her. She easily decided to start her own label with the help of good friends. Caboose Music was born in August of 2001 amidst much confusion about what it is a label actually 'does.' As a test, Jennifer put out these first attempts to record on her own, 'the dog demos' (being so-named as they are incredible 'ruff')... it was the start of truly understanding what it means to 'put out' a record. There is much more to it than meets the eye. The dog demos were never really serviced to anyone... they are hard to find at this point. CD baby is the only place you can find it from an online service.

(Did I mention that CD Baby rocks?)

There once was a man who had a vision. "If it's not right on the first take, it was never meant to be recorded." That man was Miles Davis. That album was 'Kind of Blue', possibly the greatest jazz album in the history of music. Good role model guys. Excellent, fun almbum inner.

I just don't even know how to say how much you need to hear this record. Full of life, fun, touching. Hopefully it will come back into stock someday.

If it comes in stock, buy it. Jennifer gave me a copy of dog demos a few years ago when I saw inner at the Blackbird in Portland. (Actually, she suggested I buy the proper album, and gave me dog demos because she wanted me to pay for the one I was more likely to enjoy.) She got it backwards--I love dog demos. 5 years on it's still in my common rotation. THANKS JENNIFER!

I only found out about this cd because it was on KXLU's top ten list for like a year. And actually, it was on the top FIVE for like six months. How often does THAT happen at college stations? Check it out yourself, if it ever comes back in stock. !! It rocks in the weirdest way. Totally original and bizarrly addictive. Thank you inner for your output to the world.
