"I will speak until there is no more sound" are the first chilling words that drift innocently enough through the restrained, ethereal opening track on the 11 song debut from this Canadian modern metal four piece. It's fitting, coming from a band that not only flexes indomitable musical drive and endurance, but also have plenty on their mind. Raging with a healthy cynicism that seems to be fueled primarily by injustice, these are songs rife with centralized furor and realized with a rarely seen gift for articulation that allows the music to expand without the message being lost. That's tough to pull off, and it's a real compliment to the cohesive nature of the players here. Calculated but not overly polished, this is intelligent rock that, much like Tool, isn't afraid to challenge the listener and keep them wondering what's coming next. Intricate and hard to classify, this is a record guaranteed to open your eyes and ears as it asks you to read between the lines to see the bigger picture.

Calgary’s Inner Surge have been busy as of late. Among the many accolades that they are enjoying is the completion of a new album, inclusion on a movie soundtrack, and the filming of a music video. So, what’s the big deal with Inner Surge? A listen to their newest release, Signals Screaming, reveals that they are a band that has mastered the elusive art of combining influences to make a fresh and innovative sound.
From the haunting first track on the disc, “AzurA”, a sense that Inner Surge is not your typical “paint by numbers” metal band becomes apparent. All of the tracks that follow exhibit engaging songwriting, and tightness between musicians that a lot of others fail to achieve. Intense tracks, such as “The Outcome,” “When The Doors Lock” and “Retribution Song” are countered by “Wolves,” which is more haunting and intriguing, as is the opener. Throw in a tidbit of quirkiness, such as that found in “The Bottom Line,” and you get a winning combination. Throughout its entirety, the band displays incredibly versatile musicianship, displaying their ability to encompass all sorts of rock and metal styles.
From beginning to end, Inner Surge’s Signals Screaming is a disc full of superb music, which will both captivate the listener and bludgeon him with intense, well written audio assaults. Possibly among one of the best imports that Canada has to offer - aside from Molson Beer, Peter North, and Shania Twain’s genes, that is. - STEPHEN BERNHARD

There is a new album that has been contributed to the Metal World. Inner Surge has recorded and released their third album called Signals Screaming. Coming from such Metal sounds as System Of A Down, Slipknot, Tool, Megadeth, and Billy Talent, Inner Surge have released their third effort Signals Screaming. Signals Screaming is made up of 11 tight, pounding heavy metal songs. The Members of Inner Surge are Jim Ferandes on Bass, Scott Taylor plays Guitar, Bryan Sandau who is the power force behind the drums, and finally Steve Moore on Vocals.
The first song on Inner Surge's Signals Screaming album opens with a quiet experimental bleeding guitar. The guitar sounds out of this first song instantly reminded me of the sounds that Marilyn Manson recorded in the starting of a few of his songs. The song picks up near the end to just give a little sample of the sound that is Inner Surge.
The second song The Outcome opens up with a heavy guitar riff that is the base of the song. After a few bars the song kicks into full Metal head banging gear. Another genre that comes into place in this song is Screamo. Luckily it isnt throughout the entire song but only in a couple of places. The guitar sound in this song made it my favourite off of the album. Like most songs the opening riff really decides if the song has potential, in this song it did it for me. The drum speed in this song really pushed the power of the song, even though it was only for a couple of seconds it really stood out to me.
Flames In Synergy is the third song and it picks up right where The Outcome left off. The Vox in this sound was recorded and blended into this song perfectly. Near the end of the song when the Steve Moore lets his vocals rip I liked how the vocals were tuned down and didnt overpower the guitars.
Retribution Song is a written with the bands political influence about the Uzbekistan massacre. While looking at the lyrics there is no exact mention of the Uzbekistan massacre or really any reference about the tragedy. Either it was the bands intention to write this song this way or it is just Inner Surges way to show their political and worldly views.
What made this album work in so many ways is the polished sound that comes from the album. I find a lot of metal albums sound like they are recorded in a basement or a cheap recording studio. This is fine in many ways because it gives the album that extra character and Metal sound, but with this album the sound is nicely recorded, sharp and crisp sound and carries the sound throughout the album.

Hailing from Calgary, Alberta, Canada is the hard hitting quartet Inner Surge. This eleven song release showcases the bands talent to intertwine their various influences into an original heavy sound that is both gripping and heart pounding. All of these songs are so jam packed with energy that the listener may need to call a time-out before venturing through every track on the first attempt. “Flame in Synergy”, “Branding the Muse”, and “The Outcome” are all unyielding songs that could garner the band comparisons to bands like Chevelle, Killswitch Engage and Rise Against. Bottom line: check out Inner Surge because they are quickly gaining steam and could burst out of the belly of the underground with this release.
