A very pleasant surprise...

This is an impressive album of melancholy synthpop. Everything is nicely understated. The vocals, in particular, manage to be moody without ever being overwrought. The drum programming doesn't pander to the club scene, and (not coincidentally) is much more interesting than a lot of the other synthpop to come out in the past few years.
Most of the songs are in the six to eight minute range. They build at a leisurely pace, laying a groundwork of atmospheric synths highlighted, in various songs, with tasteful guitar, cello, piano, and female backing vocals.
Prior to ordering this CD on a whim, I had never heard of the band. I can't guess why they have received so little attention. A:void should have been making lists of the best synthpop albums of 2003. If you enjoy B! Machine, or Depeche Mode's more contemplative moments, don't hesitate to check out Intricated.

well first the reason for only 3 stars. that is because this is a digipak, and i hate digipaks more than anything. i had to scan and make a proper jewel case for this gem.
as for the cd. kind of a new age synthpop at times. i love the smooth vocals. the vocals are just made for synthpop. i have it on as i write this and i am lost in the cd. it just takes me on a journey. and hey you can't go wrong with the price. its well worth it. i took a chance and bought this cd and i am very happy i did. you should too!!!
