Album Notes

"Death, Divorce & The Prison Yard" is the third long player by Scottish act The International Pop Assassins, and is very much an attempt to write and record a classic pop album. Recorded at home during the first half of 2009, and released on the Seminal Recordings label, it also sees the recruitment of a permanent line-up by frontman Eddie McKenzie after a few years of using temporary musicians. This line-up has provided some stability to the act, and has opened the writing and recording process to new influences. These can be heard on this album, with hints of bands such as The Specials, Captain Beefheart, The Kinks, ELO, Adam & The Ants, The Byrds and other great "pop" acts coming through. Despite the catchy and uplifting music, like a lot of great pop there is a dark theme to the lyrics, encompassing racism, ageing, loss, loneliness, insanity, disappointment, paranoia and, yes...death, divorce and the prison yard!
This is an album to engage the brain and the heart in equal measures!
