This group of musicians first met in 1996 while performing the traditional "fiestas de cruz" in the municipality of Carolina.
Five years later, Isabelo Rivera, group director, decided to promote this cultural event in a CD to be available to all family members in and out of Puerto Rico.
Its instrumention includes the Cuban "tres", bass, guitar, conga, bongo, guiro and a singer (Isabelo Rivera Sayans) and a choir.
This festivity to the holy cross and to the virgin is a cultural event, part of the folklore of the people of Puerto Rico and starts late in April, ending late in June.
Special activities are presented in various comunities through the whole island.

Magnificent CD on two counts.

I second the sentiments of all the reviewers who have written before me. This recording is the best possible for anyone wishing to experience the flavor of the annual Fiestas de Cruz in Puerto Rico. The authentic rendering of the songs is far superior to any more modern interpretations and adaptations. Here Isabelo faithfully recaptures both the joy of celebration and the reverence to Jesus and Mary, which characterize the spirit of the fiesta. Spanish-speaking Catholics will love the songs and want to pray with the music. And all Puerto Ricans and others interested in Puerto Rican culture, whether Catholic or not, will find in this CD a way to reconnect with their roots. On both these counts, Isabelo's recording deserves the highest possible ratings.

Magnificent collection
