dreamed up in Portland, Maine in the early part of this century, when neighbors Hannah Tarkinson and Chris McKneally started writing songs together out of a shared love for Cat Power, the Pixies, & Portishead, the band was named for a Bjork song about a wee girl, a curious hell-raising imp who's "married to herself." Now she's a growing, restless sonic creature with Hannah's gorgeous voice swooping, howling and lulling, Chris' blissed out guitars nestled on pillows of distortion, with the sound of Bekah's graceful piano, her beautiful bitchy organ, her warm voice...oceans of sound swelling in our wake, billowing underwater forests, whales in reverie, massive chthonic heaving from far below, unwelcome, unfathomed noises, fuzzy urchins, ghostshrimp luminaria, slumbering starfish...a girl trying to find herself....In the summer of '08, we finished our first album, entitled 'Maproom,' for the seaside studio where we recorded with the wizard Ron Harrity at the helm.
