Israel has played the drums since he was seven years old. From the time that he was only four years old he would listen to the rhythms of the drums coming from inside the walls of the royal palace in his town. Music played an integral part in Israel's life. His mother sang in the local church choir, his father played wind instruments and his brothers and sisters shared in the joy of being raised in a home surrounded by music. Israel attended spiritual churches such as the Mosama Disco Christo Church and the Celestial Church of Christ where music played a vital role through worship. Sitting under coconut trees along the West African seashore, Israel would embark on his own musical journey. This journey has taken him Liberia to Ghana to Nigeria, Benin, Norway and presently to Canada. His passion for the drums(heartbeat) has resulted in not only a career choice but also a way of living--as composer, performer, producer and teacher.
Israel's musical background ranges from performing in a Reggae band- "Roots Radics" in Nigeria to singing with a Norwegian band called "Bush Men Don't Surf." After moving to Canada almost ten years ago Israel has continued to further his musical career. He has performed as drummer and back-up vocals for a number of bands including the following: Samara-led by Emmanuel Quaye, Jungle Bouti Orchestral led by Kwabena Aqua , Enije Ensemble- Joseph Ashong, Groupe Bassan, Culture Force, Tikisa-Adam Solomon, Achila Orru, Bana Afrique. Israel also toured throughout Ontario with Alpha Ya Ya Diallo and has worked with numerous bands at Afrofest, including Highlife Stars.
Israel plans to introduce a very old tradition from the Fantis of Ghana (Asafo Rhythms) to the rest of the world. From the coast of Africa to the coast of North America...Israel presents a blend of cultures whose sound resonates across the waters.

I just saw Israel perform live and I had no choice but to order his CD right away. This is great music but there is more to it. His stuff comes from some special place - I have no idea what that place is but it does make it sound great :)
