Album Notes

If These Trees Could Talk return with their long awaited full length album “Above the Earth, Below the Sky.” Recorded during the summer of 2008 under the watchful eye of Tim Gerak (6P7), the album is a dark emotional journey that picks up where the debut E.P. left off. With the roots of the album firmly planted within the industrial boomtown of Akron, Ohio, the Trees have made every effort to evoke the desperation and triumph felt by a city in despair and rebirth. Utilizing a dynamic range of auditory explorations fluctuating from delicate to deafening the Trees have once again provided their listeners a primed and ready canvas upon which they may paint their own visions of chaos and serenity. The types of images only seen when our eyes are closed or when the true nature of a world operating under insanity and irrationality is exposed.

REVIEWS

No need for vocals

i got this album a couple of months ago and I was a little worried about the fact that it didn't have any vocals. I've had a couple of bad experiences with instrumental only bands, so I was a little wary. I downloaded it and absolutely loved it! It is the best instrumental only band I have ever heard. There is no need to add vocals in fact it might actually ruin it. Perfect.

The band consequently continues its very individual style with what it stands out amongst the thousands of more-or-less-well-performing post rock bands. The first song alone makes the CD worth bying, and the others don't really stand behind it. The CD comes in a nice digipak without booklet (for there are no lyrics ;). If you haven't bought the self-titled ep yet, then you should get it as well! It's also available at cdbaby for a nice price.

Characterful, colourful and compelling.

A standout record that soon sees the listener forgetting how overcrowded the 'Post-Rock' genre has become by reminding them of everything its best exponents are capable of. Frequently beautiful interlocking playing from three different guitarists crafts breathtaking and evolving soundscapes at the same time as it stuffs them full of hooks; thereby achieving a sublime marriage of spacial gravitas and visceral immediacy. And that's just the guitars. Anyone with even the slightest interest in Post Rock owes it to themselves to give this album a shot.
