Album Notes

The Rane Brothers, Ivan and Randy, have been producing albums for the last twenty years, mostly in the California Bay area. The sons of a very musical Guatemalan mother and renowned Taos painter Bill Rane, the lads have worked on the hard stages of bars and nightclubs, with some dives along the way, but always with a love of melody and harmony and passion for the nylon string guitar. Their music has always had a jazzy feel with a strong latino influence. The last few years the boys escaped the madness of California and the isolation of Hawaii to come to the high desert of New Mexico to perfect their sound. These last few years have been good to The Rane Brothers, they have won Best Pop cd 2007 and Best Latino Contemporary honors 2008 at the New Mexico Music Awards. The cd "Blame" is one of their strongest efforts to date, including the efforts of pianist and organist Doug Frantz of Santa Fe, Billy Tapia of Los Ranchitos on drums and David McCreary of Albuquerque on bass. REVIEWS

purveyor of astral beauty

Who are these guys? I thought talent lke this only existed within the confines of the golden state, between the I-5 corridor up to the Highwway 101 interchange. New Mexico, for all I knew, only consisted of some pretty distinct cuisine and some gorgeous scenery and all of that came with a healthy dose of southwest-mexicano flavored music. But then, I got to listening to the Rane Brothers and wow ..... they knocked my socks off, that is whenever I do wear socks. I live on the west coast you see. Their music and songs sent me on several beautifully meandering journeys. One minute I was grooving in Rio to the Brazil flavored track, Bossa Me. Another track, I'm falling in love all over again with my lady of 21 years after the creamy, dreamy tune, Sweet Heartache. This kind of sensitive, yet polished produced music deserves recognition. It's obvious these chaps have paid their dues to the dues god and with consistently well written material, excellent vocals and fine musicianship, it seems like the next step for the Rane Brothers would be prime time, like the New Port Jazz Festival, or Monterey Jazz Fest. Bravo y bennissimo !! ......... two thumbs up !!

This Album Takes a lot of twists and turns. The song Chocolate' is really fun with a Micheal Franks feel.a great cd to pop in the car and sound track your life. The song Blame is a cool kool! mix of musical ideas, Winton Marsalis would hate it.The album ends with a hot track "Follow The Rain", That has a Earl klugh Vibe.I think this cd is the Rane Brothers strongest effort to date. Check out Their web site They have a really cool mix of some of their stuff over the years. Thanks for the music guys.
