Jacinta Luis had the good fortune to be born in to a musical family in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, East Africa. The family’s musical roots can be traced back to their origins in Goa. Since every member of her family sang and played at least one instrument,
In 1971, the Luis family immigrated to Canada, settling in Montreal. Jacinta studied classical piano and pursued music courses at Dawson College and Concordia University. Since then, she has had a full performing career: as a pianist and vocalist alone and in quartets at the finest Montreal hotels and Jazz Venues. Since November 2009,
She performed with her trio to sold out audiences on November 13 & 14, 2009 at La Butte St. Jacques. Her Trio also performed at a Dawson College Event on November 27, 2009. Other performances included: May 13, 2010 at The Al Green Theatre in Toronto, July 1, Canada day, Montreal, July 7 & 8 Upstairs Jazz Club. The Jacinta Luis Quintet performed at: October 6, CD Launch at the Upstairs Jazz Bar, October 30 at The Oscar Peterson concert Hall.
Jacinta currently is a full time professor of Music at Dawson College where she teaches courses in Voice, Jazz History, Classical Music History and Music Appreciation.
Jacinta is currently composing new songs and looks forward to recording her fifth album in the near future.
