Album Notes

Jack Ashford is the only member of the legendary Motown Rhythm section to advance to the level of writer, producer, arranger, and singer. He
emerged from the background to center stage as a performer, but still had
that burning urge to show the world what was locked inside his unlimited talents. Decades of music has come and gone, but Jack still stands
unmovable with dedication and devotion to rhythm and soulful sounds. The dominance of his tambourine and vibes continues to capture even today’s audiences..

There are several cuts on this CD that feature the fallen members of the legendary Motown Rhythm section. If you appreciate the best of bass players listen to the “Funk” of James Jamerson on “Freemont Street”. The signature thunderous sounds of Earl Van Dyke could never be overlooked as he whaled on “Keep On”. Robert White was never given credit for being an
arranger, but along with Paul Riser does a sensational job on this album. Eddie “Bongo” Brown’s gifted hands added that perfect touch that was an asset to this and all productions that he played on.

This CD has a tremendous amount of enjoyment, superb musicianship and historical pleasure. This album was recorded in Los Angeles just before these musicians made their transitions. This is definitely a collectable!

This is a definite keeper. I've listened to this album for 2 straight days...and my favorite tracks have to be both of the "Blues For Bass" pieces. It's such a joy to listen to music that reminds me of my younger days growing up in Detroit....
