Album Notes

Jack Callahan has been a fixture in the Chicago music scene since the late 1990s so it's no wonder his long-awaited solo debut, "This Unsettled Life," has a track appropriately entitled "Long Time Coming."
Growing up in a musical family, Jack had access to numerous instruments at a young age. At fourteen, his raw musical talent and gift for songwriting naturally combined and he began to compose meaningful and poignant songs.
Jack started his professional music career playing human juke box in bars on the city's north side. While amusing most nights, he sought a brand of music closer to his roots and heart. His curiosity in Irish music grew deep after learning the bodhran drum and becoming acquainted with some of the city's finest traditional players.
Over the years, Jack polished his guitar style by taking pointers from the legendary guitarist Dennis Cahill. He then cultivated his own unique songwriting style incorporating a variety of influences including pop, rock, blues and world music - all of which give Jack's songs their own creative taste and identity.
In 2002 Jack released an album with the traditional Irish group Salthill Mines. "Fall from Grace," a song on the album that he wrote, was featured on Richard Milne's The Local Anesthetic radio program on 93.1 WXRT. After relentless gigging, being featured on Mancow Muller's Morning Mad House radio show, and playing at the House of Blues, Jack gained the confidence he sought in songwriting and decided to embark on a full length solo album.
"This Unsettled Life" characterizes the journey that Jack has taken over the years and his mantra to never settle for status quo. He hopes that your experience listening to his music gives you the same satisfaction he experienced while composing it. Enjoy.

REVIEWS

As a songwriter, he’s brilliant.
author: Pam Sullivan Wehbi
Apparently, Jack Callahan was a good musical student and paid attention to his mentors and teachers. He has effectively taken the sum of his experience and musical influences (rock, pop, Irish, world) and has assimilated and developed them into a unique and creative style. Callahan’s first track, “Kicking the Wall,” reminded me of the Sawdoctors. The style and lyrics are simple and conjure easy images that actually seemed more like good memories to me. Bodhran and tin whistle accompaniment only enhanced the Celtic tone of this song. As a songwriter, he’s brilliant.

An acoustic folk rock album with a mix between Jack Johnson and Irish folk music
author: E Jeff Einowski
Jack Callahan's song writing is strong, with a style that bridges between Jack Johnson and Irish folk music. The album sounds great. Soft and Sweet. The guitar is round yet crisp.
