notes
Jack Cooper has lived in the Kitchener-Waterloo area of southern Ontario for the past fifteen years. In that time, he has established himself as one of the mainstays in the folk music community. He has been involved in the running of Kitchener-Waterloo's Black Walnut Folk Club and has appeared in numerous folk clubs and venues throughout southern Ontario.
Jack has been described by Robert Reid of the Kitchener-Waterloo Record as " .. a gifted songwriter with a graceful voice and fluid guitar style". Originally influenced by the pop music he grew up listening to on the radio during the seventies, Jack's interest in acoustic music blossomed as he started attending folk clubs and venues over ten years ago.
Jack's latest CD, Land of Plenty, was completed towards the end of 2001. The eleven original songs and one cover resulted from his involvement with Ontario's folk music scene. Many of the songs were written with the idea of being easily sung at song circles- in fact, the local song circles and folk clubs were crucial testing grounds for all the material on the CD. The CD was produced by Guelph reisident Ken Brown. Ken has produced several fine folk and celtic recordings.
A percentage of CD sales are being donated to the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies within Conrad Grebel College at the University of Waterloo. The proceeds will help fund the construction of a new Canadian Centre for Conflict Resolution.
Jack holds a math degree from the University of Waterloo and has been employed by the University as a computer consultant for over twelve years. Jack is grateful towards the music department at the University's Conrad Grebel College for allowing him to stay connected with music during his study years and for helping him sustain his dream of creating his own music.
Jack was born just north of New York City and spent his teen years in Toronto. He is a dual U.S./Canadian citizen.
