80's pop style combined with a modern electronica groove.
author: Michael Allison
Take an 80's pop style and combine it with a modern electronica groove and you have the Jackpot Band. Excellent vocals and great dance grooves that provide the attraction and the funk. The songs are unique in their own simplicity, but complex in their arrangement. The synthesizers and programming in this music is simply masterful. Odd sounds and noises jump out at you from everywhere, but never leave the song sounding awkward or out of sync. The vocals where very pleasing to the ears and provide a great reinforcement to the music and structure of the sound. Without a doubt this is very good music. The music is very 80's and the potential for it's success is limited, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't have it's place. In fact, I liked it and wouldn't be surprised if this CD turned a lot of heads.

There are enough hooks to choke Flipper.
author: Heidi Drockelman
Jackpot is definitely one of the most buoyant and energetic duos I have come across of late. They know their market and boast some serious professional cred between the two of them. Cee Sharp (like the note, kids), the vocalist of the group, has logged plenty of time in the recording industry, performing radio jingles, voiceovers and singing lead and background vocals on different projects. Her vocals have been compared to several of the industry’s biggest female names – ranging from Stevie Nicks and Madonna to Bjork. Zip Schneider makes up the other half of Jackpot Band, playing keys (and synthesizer) and performing all of the drum programming on the disc.
First of all, there is an undeniable urge to dismiss this disc because it’s not my normal fare, but there are some truths that make this record a successful venture. The songs themselves are extremely catchy and, to quote somebody whose name is escaping me, there are enough hooks to choke Flipper. While this isn’t necessarily my bag, there are a great deal of sounds that are reminiscent of the Material Girl heyday, early nineties and even eighties throwbacks that sound slightly sophomoric at first, but because some of the songs are done tongue-in-cheek, like the opening track “Girlfriend” (which, honestly, sounded a lot like Aqua’s “Barbie Girl” sans the really annoying bald guy), there really is an element of campiness that overcomes the pitfalls of regressing electronically. Vocalist Cee Sharp bears an eery throaty resemblance to the aforementioned Madonna, especially on the tracks “Just For You”, “When I Look At You”, and “If I Thought You Cared”. Where Madonna was inventive, however, this disc is not.
I’d like to hear how Jackpot Band’s sound progresses with the changing of the millennium – I think adding an element of futurism (is that a word?) could be just what the doctor ordered, combining past with present has often been an interesting way to change the direction an artist is moving.
