The song Blood and Gold was commissioned for events surrounding the celebration this year of 10 years since free elections were secured in South Africa. It's message , however, has a broader appeal to the many situations around the world where the disadvantaged are exploited by big buisness, and where in the guise of aid and assistance they are subjugated and in the guise of security they are having their freedom restricted. So much for the message! The music is innovative and entertaining. For those familiar with Garageband.com it has won several awards in the pop/rock genre. During the month of August it has been awarded Best Drums, Best Programming, Best Dance Track and Grooviest Rhythm. In addition it is #2 all time for Best Beat (out of a total of almost 23,000 submissions). In addition this EP contains a dance re-mix of Blood and Gold and two other songs - 'Misdirection' and 'More than Enough' which also address vital global issues.
In addition to his music carreer, Billy Jackson has been involved in many political and humanitarian causes. As a direct decendent of Paul Kruger, he has always taken a proactive stance on South African affairs (such as ending Apartheid) and in matters of the African continent as a whole. He is a founding member of Nations Trust and the Consortium for the Facilitation of African Develolpment. He's an inventive and prolific writer and accomplished musician who has played on every continent.
