Album Notes

In the fall of 1998, I worked on completing my mastership in Reiki. This is a method of healing based on the application of the Universal Life Energy which looks towards a return to a greater wholeness rather than a mere curing of symptoms.

In the training process one receives extraordinary “energy attunements” and through them I experienced amazing creative impulses, a more powerful experience of the natural world and a rich, vital dream life.

In the first of a series of notable dreams, I heard an announcer say, “Calling all Angels” and then my name. I also heard bits of a song. When I awoke, I went to the piano and began to pick out a this tune.

In another dream and into a waking state, I heard whispered voices saying the Spanish word, “vuelve,” which means “return.” As influenced by my Reiki training, this dream told me that the music I would create for a new album was about the return to wholeness of a person, a community, a world.

In the days to come I met a new group of musicians – percussionist Richie Guerrero, drummer Marko Djordjevic and guitarist Matt Marshak – who were to become the core of a new band. Old friend Joe Lostritto joined us on slide guitar. We did gigs for several months, learning and playing the songs germinated from my new energy and from the dreams. We went into the studio, recorded this music and released Calling All Angels in the spring of 2000. It has continued to reach people and in 2003 we did a re-release with new artwork.
