Album Notes

The Jack Trio is a piano/bass/drums recording of original jazz compositions. Tunes range in feel from swing, to funk, waltz, bossa, rock, and latin. Written mainly by the group's bassist, these melodies are spooky, happy, sneaky, groovy, and melancholy -- sometimes, all in one song. The Trio consists of Chris Johnson (Jack) on fretless bass, David Hupp on piano, and Marcus Bohn on the drums. All the guys are busy, working musicians based in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area. They started this project after working together in Hydraulic Jack & the Lifters, a blues/jazz band working around the Twin Cities. (Hydraulic Jack & the Lifters will have a new record coming out to CDBaby soon -- check it out) Rehearsals for this recording took over a year, with new arrangements, new tunes and new ideas coming in all the time. The idea of never playing the songs the same way twice kept rehearsals fresh and fun. The recording process, as indicated by the album title, was kept as short as possible. Yes, they really did record 17 tunes in 4 hours!
No overdubbing or editing was needed. This was an inspired session by professional artists. These guys sense of feel, unity, and humor make this a very enjoyable listen.
