As weird as it was to be writing arrangements for yuletide tunes in the middle of a serious heat-wave, it was really fun recording "This Christmas" at Roy Salmond's studio at the end of August 2007.
The concept for the 12-song album is basically to record something that I would want to listen to at Christmas (a tall order, since I am notorious for cringing at the sound of my own voice). I am sidestepping most of the most popular holiday favourites, and opting instead for less familiar fare. Songs like In the Bleak Midwinter, Winter Song, See Amid the Winter snow. Hmmmm...lots of wintry tunes...let's hope global warming doesn't spoil the mood! But seriously, I guess I like to keep things quiet and meditative in my house around Christmas, so this CD will try and approximate that vibe. I want to allow the listener the space to worship and prepare for God's incarnation in their own way, through the prompting of these words and melodies.
You'll hear lots of lush guitar, piano, acoustic bass, and string quartet. A few familiar voices, like Hailey Gillis, and Chantal Hendricks will be on the CD as well. The plan is to launch the album with a big Christmas tour in December, so watch for that on the website (www.jacobmoon.com/shows/index.html).
CDs are also available for Download from iTunes, or in Chapters and Indigo stores nationwide. Landing and Eventide are currently distributed across Canada in better Christian Bookstores through my good friends at Signpost Music (www.signpostmusic.com, or www.signpostvillage.com).
