notes
Australian born, New York based Pop Piano Singer and Songwriter Karen Jacobsen has a mission to create an extraordinary life. Whether performing a sold out show at NYC’s The Duplex, to a crowd of 80 000 at Giants Stadium, or in the intimacy of a House Concert setting, a profound love of music, and a desire to connect with others through her songs is at the core of her purpose.
Releasing Here In My Heart on her label Kurly Queen, Karen’s first full production record is now in stores in Australia and NZ through Bonza Records with Rajon/Sony-BMG distribution.
A collection of melody-driven songs with Karen's distinctively passionate vocals, the pop production of Here In My Heart proudly maintains the integrity of the Singer-Songwriter. Mixed by the in-demand Andy Zulla (Jessica Simpson/Backstreet Boys), and with tracks produced by Andy, Julian Harris and Karen, guest musicians include Shawn Pelton (Sheryl Crow/SNL), Ben Butler (Rod Stewart), Richard Hammond (Jonatha Brooke/Shannon Noll) and Max Surla (The Corrs). To celebrate the release of Here In My Heart, Karen was invited to perform at Australia House in London, and a series of private concerts in Germany
Amazingly for an Aussie, Karen has performed The Star Spangled Banner at Madison Square Garden, Dodger Stadium and Fenway Park, and at a New York Jets game to a capacity crowd of 80 000 at Giants Stadium. She has appeared on the main stage at Los Angeles, Jersey City, Delaware & Ottawa Pride Festivals and her many awards include the Songwriters Hall of Fame's Abe Olman Award for Excellence in Songwriting, in the Billboard, John Lennon, UK, Unisong and USA Song Contests, and in the Kauai Music Festival.
She has shared the stage with Norah Jones, Christopher Cross, Cyndi Lauper , Deborah Cox, and along with Uncle Kracker and Jars of Clay, made her U.S. Network Television Debut on the NBC-TV Special Dare To Dream, filmed at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Originally from Mackay near Australia's Great Barrier Reef, Karen wrote her first song “Kurly Queen” at the age of 7 (now the name of her record label), studied piano, at high school played Dorothy in The Wiz and idolized Olivia Newton-John. Following her music studies in Brisbane, she established her career in Sydney as a regular performer on national television shows including Good Morning Australia, and touring to Malaysia and Thailand. Aussies may also know her as ‘Speechify Karen’

Beautiful melodies, a gorgeous voice, and incredible lyrics
author: Cristian AKaren Jacobsen's songs range from angry anthems ("Not Enough") to simple, hopeful lullabyes ("Being Brave"), but no matter what style she's singing, her sweet, true voice meshes with her intricate piano lines to deliver a real emotional punch. I have recommended her to dozens of people, and every single one has become a huge fan-- don't miss out!
It's Like You Are Living It
author: ElisabethListening to this CD is like you are really living it. The stories and the emotions are so real and heartfelt, I could share her personal experience. This is an artist who lives every song and is generous enough to share her relationships with the world. This record touches on every human emotion and I highly recommend it.
Poignant and heart-felt music for our lives
author: TomI first heard Karen playing the songs on this CD back in 2003 before the album was done. I thought she couldn't possibly give more value to the songs (just her at the piano), but I was mistaken. The production on this album is top notch and adds extra polish to every song. In addition, her lyrics ring so true and speak to a part of each of us. I can't wait to see what's next.
Music to make your heart sing
author: LindaAs I listen to this cd I find personal meaning in the lyrics of each song. It leaves wanting to hear more.
Honest, sincere with a super sense of human emotion
author: raeI think this cd is an oustanding production that captures so much of real honesty and purity. There is no mask in this music, it completely goes straight to your heart.
Songs to define emotion
author: LinzThis cd and the song writing is in short amazing. Sometimes people can define what is going on or happening in their lives by music, with this CD its true. Her voice is not only touching but graceful in the way she sings. You need to hear this album to have it mark your life.
Phenomenal. Her voice. The Piano. The band. She rocks the house.
author: MandyThis is a phenomenal CD. Her voice is amazing. She needs to be singing at packed stadiums. The band complements her beautifully. Her lyrics are simple and straight to the point. I can't wait for the next album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
awesome awesome awesome!!!
author: jovan adornoThis is a great cd. karen is an amazing singer and song writer. Her music is catchy i cant get them out of my head.
Superb vocal stylings, excellent piano work, good use of the pause
author: Joe Del PrioreStrong points-a voice pure and passionate, subtle sense of melodic changes, superb pianist.Improvement needed in lyrical content, has tendency to fall into generic, predictable ryhmes. Sometimes chorus not distinguished enough from rest of song. If she had Steely Dan's lyrical sensibility, or wrote specifically about her interesting, well traveled life she could be a force.
Karen Jacobsen is on the verge of stardom.
author: Dave CArlsonWith the release of Here In My Heart, Karen Jacobsen combines her wonderful vocals and keyboard with a full band. You're OK , Londontown, You're body over over mine, should all be top 40 singles. Buy This Cd Now !!!!
pure pop-tastic. great writing, singing, production.
author: michaeli have this artist's two piano/vocal cds, and love them as well, but it's great to hear a full production of songs like YOUR BODY OVER MINE (my personal favorite) and IT'S NOT ENOUGH. the production values are top-notch, and hopefully this will signal the beginning of more, more, more! (dance remixes, single bonus tracks, etc...) i can't rate high enough. i love it.
A Must Have. Fresh, Sassy. An enjoyable listen.
author: D.L. DevereauxHaving purchased her 2 prior works, I expected nothing less than the deeply personal, hauntingly poignant lyrics and sweet melodies resident on those CDs. With the release of Here In My Heart, this Australian born New York City transplant has arrived! She has revisited many of those emotionally charged, almost melancholy tunes of her prior works, but has infused a new attitude and fresh upbeat energy into their delivery this time around. The added London Town and the funkier Don't Miss You are my favorites along with what should be Oprah Winfrey's new anthem - Strong Woman. Very easy on the ears and very liberating for the soul.
