NEW 10th Anniversary Edition Biography on Jaco Pastorius!

Loaded with new insights about Jaco's amazing life, including new revelations about his final days, this special Anniversary Edition takes a greatly expanded look at the man who revolutionized his instrument and became one of the most potent and influential forces in modern jazz.

Like his heroes Charlie Parker and Jimi Hendrix, Jaco lived fast - made a huge impact - and died young. During his meteoric rise from obscurity to international jazz super-stardom, Jaco altered the course of modern music and opened a door that generations of bass players have since walked through. Jaco often said "It ain't braggin' if you can back it up," and this book reveals he usually did.

This NEW "The Extraordiniary & Tragic Life of Jaco Pastorius" also includes an exclusive 44:00 CD carefully excerpted from the critically acclaimed “Portrait Of Jaco - The Early Years” that features extremely rare music from Jaco's very beginnings as a musician up through his Weather Report years. Here along with testimonials from his family, friends and colleagues, including Jaco's own spoken words, help to breathe life into this incredible true story. This new biography also features a stunning new cover and many new never-before-seen photos.

Great inview of Jaco's life!
author: ProDigit
The book comes with a cd. I bought this book to read on my long 8 hours transatlantic flight, and I read half of the story for the 8 straight hours! It's a great bio of Jaco's life which I'd recommend to all bassists who are attracted to at least some of Jaco's playingstyle/songs, and who want to dig in more of his lifestyle to be able to play more like him. This book will most likely give you the best insight of Jaco's life. It helps you to understand why and how Jaco's enviroment and moods (directly or indirectly) affected his music. I am absolutely positive that reading this book will raise your playingstyle and methode to play closer to jaco's. Something unmentioned in the book, but as an addition to the testimonies in this book, I liked to share a small story of a greek musician Jaco spend a day with: Jaco once visited Germany, and had spend one afternoon at a greek guitarist's place (living in belgium). Jaco told him: "you don't always need to play or learn licks to improve your playingstyle". Jaco spend one afternoon just talking about music with this man. And he testified that this talking made him realise many things about music, and made him a better player. About the cd, it has nearly all the spoken words and testimonies found on the early years of Jaco double CD.

Get it - It's a must read
author: Jaco Pastorius
As I was there in "The Early Days" , it seems a few parts of the book are slightly novelized. Other than that it tells Jaco's story, a story you need to know. The story moves well, holding your interest so get the book and get interested.
