Kirtan is the calling, the crying, the reaching across infinite space-and digging into the heart's deepest well-to touch and be touched by the Divine Presence," teaches world music pioneer Jai Uttal. On Kirtan! The Art and Practice of Ecstatic Chant, Jai guides listeners through the practice of Kirtan-singing the many names of God and Goddess-an essential part of Bhakti yoga, or the yoga of devotion. This sacred music form is for all people; there are no experts, nor beginners, and the practice itself is the teacher, guiding us to ourselves.
Listeners join Jai Uttal to explore:
* The power of ancient Sanskrit syllables in chant to invoke the Divine
* How to open the voice and learn to love the sound that comes from our bodies
* More than two hours of music recorded by Jai Uttal to commune with the Divine through sacred chant
* The path of Bhakti and Kirtan, the journey of surrender, and much more
For Jai Uttal's many fans, finally here is a chance not only to hear a new release from this legendary world music artist, but to participate with him in blissful spiritual devotion on Kirtan! The Art and Practice of Ecstatic Chant.
Jai Uttal, a sacred music composer, recording artist, multi-instrumentalist, and ecstatic vocalist, combines influences from India with influences from rock, folk, hip-hop and jazz creating a stimulating and exotic multi-cultural fusion that is truly world spirit music. "Mondo Rama", Jai's latest album with his band the Pagan Love Orchestra was nominated for a 2003 Grammy award as "Best New Age Album".

Makes my heart sing!
author: SusieQueJai brings the beauty of kirtan to everyone. I didn't even know what kirtan was, but when I heard a track from this CD and my heart began to sing, I knew that I wanted to hear more and more. Now my commute to work is too short when I'm singing along with Jai in my car!
Amazing! Uplifting! Mystical! Enchanting!
author: MazzyboyI absolutely love this cd. As my first introduction to Kirtan, I have now started attending kirtan at a local ashram monthly. I listen to this cd on my way to yoga every morning. The power of this cd is amazing. It evokes so many emotions and uplifts ones mood. Fingers crossed more is to come from this talented, devoted artist.
Kirtan made simple
author: TJAs a person who practices kirtan every week, this was a great CD. Mellow sounds, beautiful voices & an interesting discourse from Jai Uttal for those unfamiliar with kirtan.

Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!
author: Thirza SchalingIt's a beautiful cd. I knew this cd already, but I bought it to give it to a friend. A very special gift for very special people....... There is a lot of love and warmth in the songs and in Jai Uttals voice. And he made me love singing kirtans.
Jai sets us up for a successful ecstatic experience.
author: Melissa Frykman-ThiemeI bought this CD to learn some beginning "how-to's" of Kirtan. I have not been led astray. Jai Uttal, in his eloquent intro, invites us to sing the names of God with him in a wonderfully unimposing and neighborly way-- sets us up for a successful ecstatic experience. The pieces range from very simple to moderately complex, giving us a variety of experiences to test ourselves with. I wanted it to go on into another CD!!! Thanks, Jai!!

Unbelieveable!
author: Mickey MestelJai has captured the essence of bhakti like few have on a recording. His devotion comes through in a way that is unexplainable, and must be listened to to understand. There are many recordings of Kirtan out there, but there are few, if any, that convey the devotion and love that Jai does on this recording.
UNDERFULL ....

Perfect
author: Frank BarnettWhile his other stuff shows an interesting hybrid of Indian and western music, this one is a primer on kirtan. Whether you're new to the form or lead kirtan yourself, this is inspiring music with interesting background information.
Inspirational and uplifting. Makes washing the dishes into ecstatic mediation.
author: Lisa MaseThis compact disc is worht the purchase price. The chants are wonderfully chosen and executed, and the music that accompanies each song adds well-crafted depth to the experience of each song. There is an interesting track on the first CD, duirng which Jai Uttal talks more about kirtan. I tend to skip over this track, but I do enjoy it when I have more focused attention to listen. Thank you!
FABULOUS! inspires me to sing along.
author: janeFABULOUS cd. great modern arrangements, but traditional enough to feel the original power of the mantra. loved the commentary also.
inspiring!
author: LaurenMusic and vocals are rich, smooth, sensual and rock the house! Ram Ram Ram Ram Ram Ram Ram Ram..........
The music and chants lifts me up!
author: M JamesI can't imagine the work it took to put this together! I really love the music, and it could easily stand alone, but when you add Kirtan, it's irrestible! Jai's voice is so passionate, and it's interesting to learn more about these Sanskrit mantras devoted to the Hindu deities. I ordered a second CD set so that I can keep one in the car and one at home. This is great music for commuting. Time flies with Kirtan and by the time you get where you're going, you feel great!
