Refreshingly pure and good folk rock music
author: Allie_elentari
This cd is amazing! It's a wonderful blend of folk and rock with excellent lyrics. Jake is definitely not your typical commercial band. I loved the whole album but I have to say that my favorite song was 1000 Years. Cowboy is another favorite of mine as well. I recommend it to anyone who is tired of hearing the same stuff over and over again on the radio.

This CD is amazing! I am so glad one of my friends mentioned the band and got me hooked; I've had the CD in my car nonstop for the past several weeks. It's different from most of what's out there, in the best possible way!

So Hip It Hurts

When I picked up the latest CD by Jake and saw the cowboy on the cover, I thought I’d be in for some howdy howdy. Well, I’ve been wrong before. There’s nothing cowboy about it.
“That’s me dressed like a guy,” says Jake--a.k.a. Jessie Lee Montague--frontwoman of the hip local band. “I’m from New Mexico, so I have an affinity for southwestern garb. We just picked that picture because of the cool shadow.”
That shadow isn’t the only cool thing about *Snake Road.* Just released on Jake’s own Desert Dog Records, this CD’s one of the best to come out of Woodstock this year. It’s feel-good music with substance and great production. Mellower than their first two releases, it features Montague’s expressive, angelically gorgeous vocals; when she sings, she’s definitely feelin’ it. From earnest cuts like “Already Gone” and “She,” to the edgy “Fool’s Blues” and a trippy cover of “Strawberry Letter 23,” Jake offers catchy, melodious rock that’s soft enough to keep mom from screaming, but hard enough to please any young, modern radio leech. And DJs take note...if this isn’t prime hit material, I don’t know what is.
Montague started out playing on the streets of Europe to support herself and formed Jake when she returned to the states in 1996. Joined by multi-instrumentalist/singer John Annese and percussionist/vocalist Jagoda, their hard-edged *Bloodblue* was named best CD at a recent indie music forum. One single, “Heaven,” was used on the soundtrack for Oliver Stone’s *Gravesend.* But like the billions of bands out there, Jake is managed by Jake.
“It’s like swimming upstream in the music world these days,” says Montague. “I’m not good a schmoozing at all; I’m pure artist. It’s challenging for me to try to sell, sell, sell. All I can do is get out there and play.”

Absolutely awesome! I can not believe that this is the first time I have heard of "Jake". By far one of the best groups that I have heard in a while.
