Album Notes

JAKE SHARP "Guitarist Jake Sharp's story-telling style is sure to keep even the non-jazz fan satisfied" (Southeast Performer) Guitarist, composer and bandleader Jake Sharp started on the instrument in 1987 drawn by classic rock and blues. A close listen to Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk started his love of improvisation. Compositional inspiration ranges from Charles Mingus to Bill Frisell to Lennon/Mcartney. Jake has never given up on his love of more modern, popular sounds and soon began putting it all together along with "world beat" sounds he had been soaking up, giving him an aggressive tone and heavier-than-expected rhythms, solid songwriting and swirly moments of psychedelia. "I basically just realized that there are no 'styles'- it's either an honest expression or it's not." This accounts for some of the unusual choices in the latest band's cover material; "Beatles, Radiohead, Bjork, and Ray Charles tunes" have all popped up at gigs and on recordings. The latest and bestest album by The Jake Sharp Band is "Brilliant Shadows" with Jairaj Swann on bass and Blake Helton on drums, percussion and Fender Rhodes. Due out Dec. '05 Produced by: Jake Sharp/Tony Copley of Ledge 7 Productions Jake has recently contributed a track to the upcoming film "The Essence of Irwin"-Produced by Tony Copley

Tones and Moods abound. Strong improv skills are showcased.
author: Jesse from Maine
These songs are a strong collection of moods. Captured and translated through music. I especially like the lonely desperate feel of Tones for T-bones. The use of the occaisional loop finds you squarely planted in modern times yet somehow they have managed to keep a feel of yester-year in the digital age. Take a journey with Jake Sharp, who knows where you will land.
