"Jambo" Joe Bones looks and sounds like he stepped off a '70s Jimmy Buffett album cover with nothing but an acoustic guitar, a backpack full of lyric-based songs and an eye out for the nearest waterfront bar or roadside honky-tonk.

His set list reflects an appreciation for classic singer-songwriters in the acoustic vein and a willingness to go beyond the catalog of greatest hits. His wide-ranging catalog of Buffett covers includes the obligatory "Songs You Know By Heart," but also features dozens of lesser-known classics dating back to the days of vinyl.

Along the way, Jambo sprinkles in a liberal sampling of the likes of Jerry Jeff Walker, Todd Snider and Guy Clark; stirs in a little Warren Zevon and Barenaked Ladies; adds a dash of John Prine or Johnny Cash; and serves it all up with a side of well-crafted originals.

Although his "Joe Bones" persona conjures up images of a beachfront bar (which is not always easy to do in northern Wisconsin), he's actually much closer to what Steve Earle would call a "hardcore troubador." That's not a bad thing.
