Album Notes

Following inspiration from jam sessions and other playing experiences with his current collaborators, the James Davis Quintet was formed in the spring of 2006. The members of the band are all extremely active in the current young creative surge in the Chicago jazz scene, frequently appearing at many of the local weekly jazz series and sessions and recording with many veteran and younger musicians.

The quintet features original compositions by James Davis, which draw on the language of jazz from the last thirty years or so, and incorporate sounds bordering on pop/rock and even drum ‘n bass rhythms. Throughout these stylistic tangents, however, a common thread of patience and sensibility pervade the renditions.

James Davis, a native of Waxahachie, TX, is an active freelance trumpet player in Chicago. After finishing his Masters degree at the University of North Texas, playing in both the One O’Clock Lab Band and Wind Symphony, James moved to the Chicago area to be immersed in an eclectic and creative jazz scene.
