James Cooper : Where Is Their Customer Service?
Log in to add to your wishlist
This is a song that pokes fun at the state of Customer Service and Technical Support assistance; such as it is presently, in the United States of America (USA). The song is performed in "Popular" genre style, but, with a somewhat noticeable hint of American “Country” flavoring added to it. The intended purpose of the song is threefold: To be humorous, thought provoking and entertaining all at the same time.
Genre: Pop: Pop/Rock

Album Notes

Several years ago, I encountered problems while attempting to install newly purchased anti-virus software into my computer. For some strange reason, the installation could not be completed in normal fashion-and my computer; while partially allowing for the installation to go through, in the end would reject the program install. After innumerable failed attempts at installing the software and seemingly by divine intervention; surprisingly, my computer appeared to accept the software install.

But, it did not end there. Notwithstanding the fact that the anti-virus software manufacturer had advertised that their product was compatible with both my computer and the OS that I was using; clearly there were conflicts and issues that prevented a smooth install operation.

Enter technical support! I dialed the telephone number given for technical assistance. And this was precisely, the moment where my personal nightmare would begin. It was just the standard generic 'eight-hundred' telephone number followed by seven digits that one would commonly find here in the USA. The phone line began to ring as I waited patiently, for someone to answer my call.

The one word that was clearly understood by me was when the person who answered the phone said, "Hello." Following that, I could only understand about four-to-five out of every ten words spoken by the tech support person. Moreover, as I explained the issues that I was having with regard to the software and my computer, I found myself having to repeat the same explanation again and again; due to the fact that the tech support person had great difficulty understanding the English language.

I spent countless hours on the telephone through the course of several days, attempting to converse with a USA based software company's technical support personnel; all of whom were located overseas in a faraway country and could not communicate; or much less understand very little of what I was articulating concerning the problem I was having. Needless to say, the tech support personnel provided absolutely, no assistance whatsoever. I became frustrated and disillusioned over the amount of time that was wasted and the non-resolution of my situation. I ended up trashing the anti-virus software that I had purchased and made the solemn vow to never again purchase a product of any kind that did not provide customer service/technical support, right here, in the good old USA.

Finally, after further thinking about the awful experience, I decided to write the song entitled, "Where Is Their Customer Service?"

Could you please put someone on the phone that speaks english

Why, why, why? It seems like every time I call in I can only understand every third word that is being spoken. What happen to the days when you called customer service and got Sally out in Kansas or Bob in Tennessee? Sure Bob had a southern drawl but at least you could still understand him!!! If your answering phones in customer service, excellent command of the english language (and ALL of it's subtleties) should be a prerequisite! There is nothing worse than having spent 2 hours trying to trouble shoot your computer to no avail. Then, calling tech support and getting some dude in Bangkok......... Bangkok, Really.... C'mon man WHERE IS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!!

A ANTHEM for Customer Service Refrom
author: Quincy Clark

This is a great song that brings to light difficulties many of us have experienced when dealing with technical support, customer service representatives. While we are aware that as our world continues to move toward a technical global economy, many services such as technical support are now outsourced to other countries. And yes, we’ve all heard that outsourcing can result in overall economic gains and greater productivity. However, global firms, which increasingly use outsourcing, must remain true to thy customer – you know us, the ones that “pull out their credit card.” Lookout, Technological Powerhouse firms, your customers have a new ANTHEM for customer service reform. This song is an ANTHEM that supports enhancing a vital part of globalization success - outsourcing customer service exchange between countries. By the way, “Where is There Customer Service?”

"Lost Customer Service"
author: Bridgetta Cottingham

This song really hit's on the fact that society as a whole has lost touch with interpersonal communication skills and lacks empathy for the consumer. In every industry you are directed to a computer or disconnected or better yet left on hold. With all of the advancements in technology we are losing communication skills which leaves the consumer feeling like cattle being moved through a line. So, I can really relate to the message in this song. My overall review is: the direction society is moving in; me, I, and mine, and maybe service providers may need to listen to this before starting there day! Maybe we'll all have a better day.
