Album Notes

Ed James...just a guy on a mission to write the perfect song. After earning a degree in music, Ed relocated to North Carolina, where he has written and recorded several albums worth of original power pop/rock songs, many of which have been featured on CD compilations, including International Pop Overthrow Vols. 3 and 5 (Not Lame Records), The Bam Balam Explosion IV USA Power Pop Compilation (Bam Balam Records), Pop Under The Surface (Yesterday Girl Records), Browser Barbarians (DMR Diversions), Unsound Series Volume 1: Pop! (To M'Lou Music), and Burnt Marshmallows & Teeny Bikinis (Optional Art).

Ed has also contributed tracks to several tribute CDs, including I Love Sparkle*Jets U.K. (Crab Apple Records), A Tribute To The Left Banke (Brobdingnagian Records), Are You Ready Steve? - A Tribute To Sweet (Bullseye Records), and recent George Harrison and Gene Pitney tribute discs.

In 1999, Jam Records released Meet Ed James...the very first solo CD by Ed James. The collection was a hit with pop critics and fans, and was recently re-released (with bonus tracks) by Japanese label Air Mail Recordings. The original pressing of Meet Ed James is nearly out of print.

And now, Ed is happy to announce Poprocket, his brand-new Jam Records CD, featuring 12 diverse power pop tunes, displaying Ed's growth as an artist, both musically and lyrically. From the Who-inspired "C'mon C'mon", to the Beatlesque "Sister Blue", to the garage-romp "Trippin' On Your Love", Poprocket is serious fun...rocking, melodic, thought-provoking, silly, and just pure Ed James.

Ed has performed at International Pop Overthrow music festivals in Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago, as well as Sparklefest, a Chapel Hill, NC-based power pop event.

This cd was very fun and a refreshing change from all the bland cds out in the "mainstream". imagine an artist that can write and perform songs! This is it. From start to finish is a very solid piece of work. I think the vocals are pretty distinct and are clear and understandable, production is very good. You will be pleased with this disc.

Loads of hooks, lots of harmonies, and high quality songs.

Ed James' new recording "Poprocket" is a great step forward from his awesome "Meet Ed James". The songs rock a bit harder, with hints of The Raspeberries, Cheap Trick, Dwight Twilly and other awesome 70s power pop, with a very current sound to them. Loads of hooks, lots of harmonies, and high quality songs and production throughout! Ed James is gathering more and more attention these days, and it is all very well deserved!

Never has a title been more appropriate!

Never has a title been more appropriate! Anyone who can evoke thoughts of Rick Springfield, Kyle Vincent or Jellyfish with healthy doses of 70s bubblegum certainly deserves my immediate attention. I was simply in heaven listening to the twelve songs here. It?s almost as if Ed himself visited my house, went through my CD collection and pulled bits and pieces from everything, threw it in a blender and this disc came out. Everything here is instant gratification, yet after a dozen or so listens, it felt as fresh as the first time out. Nice job.

Brilliant CD

Ed James has matured as a writer, a singer, a player, and a producer to levels far greater than one could expect to see in a mere three years. I never doubted he was the real thing, but... wow! The songs on Poprocket are fantastic, energizing, fully realized compositions with more hooks than Col. Blake's fishin' hat, lead vocals that make me think of what Dennis DeYoung (Styx) would have sounded like without all that opera vibrato crap and more rock edge, and background vocals (same guy, mind you) so tight and perfect that they take your breath away.
